The race will cover just under 30km (as long as you don’t get lost), with a combo of manned checkpoints and list of things to photograph, scattered around the outskirts of the CBD. No really steep hills, but there will be a couple of very slight, gradual inclines and a little bit of ‘pave’ thrown in as a nod to the Paris-Roubaix (a.k.a. A Sunday In Hell) which will be aired live on SBS at 10pm that night.

FIXED/SS ONLY.

(GEARLESS AND FEARLESS! leave your hangers at home and bring some balls!)

-If you can’t race but are willing to man a checkpoint, or know somebody who would, let me know.-

*while stocks last

SCREENING:

“TO LIVE AND RIDE IN LA” starts at 2pm - Wheaty in Thebarton - organised and handled by JLN (of Fags on Fixies and ‘Trashcan’ fame) with assistance from Treadly.

fuck yeah

Outa curiosity, when you hold an alley cat do you need non rider/helpers to man checkpoints/drink beer 'n’stuff?

I’ll take that as an offer!

We will probably need some people to man checkpoints/drink beer/take photos. It will be over 2-3 hours, but you’d only need to sit around till everybody has passed through.

But we’d still like heaps of people to race though. Just for the craic, if not the spoils. So tell your mother, your brother, any other sucker. The more people, the more fun.

I am definitely up for it.

There are a few guys at work that have fixed/ss machines in their stables, I’ll pass the message on. Will there be rules on bikes/equipment?

Cool. Bring who you can.

Only one rule regarding bikes. No blades sticking out from your hubs or handlebars, Ben Hur/Grease style.

mmokay (gets the spanner to remove the blades) :frowning:

So the route is planned and checkpoint locations all plotted. The race will cover 30km, in and outside of the CBD. No steep hills, but there will be a couple of very slight, gradual inclines and a little bit of ‘pave’ thrown in as a nod to the Paris-Roubaix (a.k.a. A Sunday In Hell) which will be aired live on SBS at 10pm that night.

I will need a few people to man checkpoints. So if you have a friend or partner who would like to be invloved, but not race, or you are injured in some way or not able to race, let me know and I can put you to good use.

There will also be a screening of one or two awesome fixed gear-related ‘movies’ at The Wheaty in Thebarton at the end of the race at 2pm (sharp) organised by JLN (of Fags On Fixies fame).

I will update the OP with the flyer as and when more details and sponsors are confirmed.

This sounds great, any chance of showing ‘A Sunday in Hell’ too? Pretty please.

Unfortunately we only have a 1 hour slot for movie entertainment as they’ve got bands on afterwards. We try and see what we can do though.

Starting point will be in the park at the north end of Brooker Tce in Hilton 5033

(As we can’t start in Paris, I figured Hilton was good enough)

Be cool if people coming from east wanted to meet up in Vic Sq and roll there together to the start. I’m sure JLN can organise that. Be a good warm up coming down Sir Don!

Not that long now. Getting some good prizes together. Should be enough for the first few people to win something rad.

So nothing for my overweight arse then…

Ha. You never know. You gotta be in it to win it!

But yeah, everybody who completes the race will get something.

What’s the entry criteria for bikes?
Fixed/ S/S only or geared too?

Let’s keep it fixed/ss.

Just an update on sponsors and goodies to win. With the help of Sam at Treadly, we’ve got a bunch of stuff from the likes of ASHCAN (of course), Knog, Velocity, BO Gear, Gear Brisbane, Mishka, Grand Scheme, House of Pistard, Mission Workshop…and a bunch of others. Definitely worth getting on your bike for!

Spokecard and flyer will be out as soon as I finish collating all the logos from the vast number of sponsors.

I hear it 30k’s. I might lock my bike up and catch the bus for parts of it.

Just out of interest, will people have to register in advance or is it simply a turn up and race type of affair?

Just turn up at 10am, register, and then race.

(and remember to bring a camera)

Check OP for all info and updates.

Just another call for checkpoint volunteers. PM me if you, or somebody you know is interested in helping out. Wouldn’t be difficult and wouldn’t take up too much of your time. Do it with a mate/partner, and take a few beers along.
