Bairnsdale to Jindabyne

heh namadgi. took me 4 hours to walk/ride the section that said ‘19km of gravel ahead’ got hella sunburnt and ate an out of date gel that gave me indigestion. AND had to put up with rednecks doing sweet 4 wheel drifts towards me on my right, snakes of my left.

yeah pretty much best ride ever GH

(tbh thats a good point, moving over on to the extremes of the road shoulder is going to be a pain in the arse on skinny slicks, youll be right though  )

I now don’t know if I should be scared or excited about this ride…

Both. Just ride it and have a blast.

Seems to be a recurrent theme. I’ve had to deal with fuckwit drivers both driving and riding through Namadgi.

GH, Namadgi is on the Canberra side of Jindabyne, dunno if you were planning on riding through there (it’s quite a bit of dirt roads) or just taking the highway? If taking highway, ignore all Namadgi=RedneckHell comments  FWIW, I don’t remember any problems through there when I did it.

not trying to scare you, just giving you the heads up so you’re not complacent after a long day in the saddle etc.

the drivers aren’t so bad you should avoid doing it, but it is worth being aware that they may not give a shit about passing you at 100km/h in a cloud of dust.

The hardest part for me was the highway stretch between Cooma and Jindy, I was so wrecked, headwind and it was a 180 km day for me.

When I did the ride i was on slick file tread 32’s and it was fine but like Angry said the descent from Wallace Cragie was pretty rutted.

TBH if I redid the ride i’d bring my rigid 29r and add in more dirt and ride some jindy singletrack.

Haven’t got a plan once at Jindy other than maybe stay a few days and enjoy some of the climbs and rides around there. I figured I could eventually ride up to Canberra area and beyond to get a train back to Melbourne.

Good plan
