Drozy, can not believe it yes i am an industrial designer how did you put that together!!!
lol. The Nuvinci, if you’re riding around on the flats, is a massive waste of weight and money. Alfine 8/Nexus 8 hubs are much more efficient, cheaper, lighter, and easier to set up. I’m sure you can get belt sprockets for them too, if you like. The CVT thing might appeal but like many things in the bike industry, the Nuvinci is a good industrial/automotive idea that doesn’t translate well due to efficiency and weight problems.
My dog barks some …
Hi Joe,l heres my Rtationale: the nuvinci n360 is 1000 grams or there abouts heavier than the shimano geared hub. when I started I was happy with steel frame bars blah blah so if I throw some bucks at it i can make that 1000 grams up with lighter stuff. As for the inefficiency well that is offset to some degree by the efficiency of cadence and the lack of changing gears. The disparity Is something I think I can live with. Will not know till I try it. The efficiency between geared hubs and Derailleur is about 8%. Good points but the main reason I wnt to try it…because I can, its fum
Cheers
Holy shit i just googled the hub,
Its 2450grams are you crazy wow
Thats more than a third of the weight of my whole roadie.
Im guessing you work for this company,
and are trying to promote it,
Am i right.
Nope do not even have one, cannot buy it in Aus have to import it. I know it has its downfalls like the efficiency and the company will not evan quote it. But neither does shimano or sturmy archer
My motives are non comercial
Cheers
The future…can wait 'til next week.
What do we want!..time travel!..when do we want it!..irrelevant
because #yolo
And I thought my first thread was a bit of a shit one…
If you want a fixie with gears that coasts; made with parts that weigh a tonne then I’d suggest this:
Your not going to enjoy this pile of shit either the first time you try to ride it up any incline longer than a footpath ramp…
There is nothing efficient about a 4kg wheel set on any bicycle
I’m a detective.
You don’t like dérailleurs.
Even though they are a perfectly functional, time honed piece of efficient machinery, and wish to use something newer, worse designed and generally less practical in lieui of properly learning the methodology and technical aspects of a derailleur.
You embody everything which everyone hates in industrial designers.
The bicycle does not need to be redesigned.
I am pretty chuffed that I was right though.
Try square wheels, they are different and enable you to park your bike on hills without it Rollin away.
Have you considered airless tyres? You’ll never get a flat tyre ever again.
skid for dayyyyssssssss
Just get a singlespeed, seriously they’re great fun, great for fitness, light, the ultimate in efficiency, and take your attention away from your bike and help you pay attention to your surroundings. If you go too far down the path of analysing your equipment (a path I know well as a tinkerer) you’re just going to become obsessed with little things. Don’t fret about the hills. Anything other than a >1km, 10% plus grade is not going to be a problem.
Trying it because you can, because it’s fun, is completely valid and something we all do or have done. Asking for opinions on a web forum if you’ve already made up your mind is just asking for flaming - don’t take it too seriously
good luck, if you’re ever in Canberra drop in and check out some of my ill-conceived projects over the years.
I’d just like to point out I am no way affiliated with “SteveD”
Mr SteveD, dont bother trying to reinvent the wheel. You will waste massive amounts of time and money.
Get a Fuji Track. Set it up with 70gi. Fix it when it needs it and upgrade bits once in a while. Spend your large amounts of time and money you now have due to not carrying out your fundamentally flawed plans on drinking, partying and shagging.
In 12 months time you will either thank us for this advice, or tell yourself they were right.
