Nope - I’ve been pretty soft on them. Nothing fancy, just a few k’s, Saturday rides, cafes and short commutes - I think they were just from a dodgey batch. But it’s enough for me - onto a new pedal.
i’ve had a few return crank brother stuff to the shop.
general opinion seems to be that they are a fantastic pedal if you are sponsored or can get them cheap, but they do seem to have some durability issues.
on a similar note, i love all the time pedals i’m using, on 4 differant bikes, but has anyone else had the thing with the end caps that cost a fortune, and have to be there to stop the pedal from moving lateraly, falling off.
great design except for the end caps…
Had the same problem with mine, the last time the cap fell off (it’s only happened once) i was drunk, so didn’t notice. The next time i went to ride ‘Colly’ she had lost the end cap on my time pedal. Sok got a mate who owed me a favor to pay for a new one. So not sure how much it cost but never the less, poor caps.
All this aside, i love my Time pedals… love em long time!
I’m with Des, been riding eggbeaters since they first came out, bought first generation stainless models 6 years ago and other than one set of bearings and bushings and replacement cleats i’ve had no problems at all, have two other sets, same thing.
they got a bit sloppy once because the cage had deformed a little through thousands of clip ins/outs, squeeze them in a vice and they are as good as new.
I’m not anti SPD, some people like heavy over complicated engineering…ha
I would recomend that you send them back, if they get repaired or replaced someone here will buy them. I need another pair.
For real. They’re the pedals I have on the Hillman. They’re NOS 2002 ATAC Aliums which are basically the same as the current model. Pretty good value when you consider that cleats cost $35+ these days…
