De Rosa Hard rubbish find

Some of you may have seen me mention this in ‘what have you done today’ thread:

Got woken up by a call sat morning, it was my mate saying he had a hard rubbish find for me and that i should go pick it up as he was in lycra on his roadie… i was sceptical but rushed over as he said he was in battle with a metal scrapper for it.

when i was almost there he said he had the frame in his possession as the previous owner saw he wanted the bike, so had driven it to my mates house for him!

Turns out it is a De Rosa;

Painted over the original paint and rusty as hell, not sure what to do with it> (no aerospok or ‘fixie’ conversion suggestions plz :stuck_out_tongue: )

Dont think its the original components either as i thought these had campy?
no idea what model, if someone can shed some light it would be appreciated.

thanks

For me I might rechrome the whole thing and put a fresh group on it. But do leave to the expert to see if the rust is beyond ridable condition.

yea, would love to do that or restore to original paintwork (if i can find out what it is)

couple more pics:

thinking it could be the top right of these? (only one without paint name 0.o -aqua colour peeking through the dodgy paintwork and sloping chrome fork crown?)

Nice pickup! Which city are you in, then we can recommend painters.

Muppet front derailleur cable routing over the CS bridge!

Haven’t seen a de rosa without panto’d seat stay caps. Probably a McBain.

looks nice, rust doesn’t look to bad, have a look inside the BB and tubes if you can.

Rechrome/repaint it, would build up as a nice roadie

are there any ‘de rosa’ markings on the frame itself? or just the forks?

these sort of projects sound great in theory but they always end up being outrageously expensive

personally i wouldnt worry about it

a quick tidy up and it could make an ok pub bike

I reckon aerospoke and fixed conversion would be rad.

Dual aerospoke roadie, dooo it

ftfy

just leave all the derailleur crap on it, and cut the cables. sweet singlespeed bro.

try a bit of cutting compound (hvy duty car polish) on a rag and see if it lifts that rattlecan black.
might get lucky and find decals

My thoughts also, each de rosa I have seen has had panto on several spots - including seat stay bridge, which the frame you opinted out in the catalogue has also I believe. Paging Spirito/Antmandan

Eddy’s didn’t!

Yes nice find indeed!
Frame might not be De Rosa but it looks well made and Italian IMO. Have a look for any numbers on the BB or pantographing as others have said.

Edit- just saw comparison of BB- it must be a De Rosa! Well done, strip it down and repaint.

shit, you’ve found eddy merckx’s de rosa from his little-documented 1974 'round the bay in a day attempt!

Attempt? He didn’t make it?
