Those ‘Zork’ cork substitutes that a few Australian and US winemakers use …
… make perfect end caps, and even overlap a bit at the top, like a mushroom, enclosing the start of your tape.
Smooth fit, not fully inserted in this pic. might need a bit of gaffer for a tighter fit.
Light, too! There’s an air-filled section in the ‘stem’, which makes it quite strong, even though the walls are quite thin there. Nice and tough at the end so it should tolerate a few spills (no pun intended) as it’s /4\ LDPE.

What I meant was, there is a gap between the outer edge and the plug stem that is wide enough to help keep a grip on the tape. It’s about 10mm deep. Don’t know what it will do to the finish, might only suit black tape setups.
Do you know that, typically, you fold the tape over into the end of the bars for a nice clean finish (although that may not be possible/necessary with these plugs)? It can also help stop the end cap from vibrating out.
