Don’t they UNDERSTAND that our dollar is weaker and that this was a piece of AUSTRALIAN history - not just some other showpiece to hang on their wall?!
And now some Fvcked up Yank is going to be stacking it in his garage, or building some bloody ugly bits anc bobs on it. Have you seen some of the bikes on fixed gear gallery.
Absolutely Hideous.
It was a noble deed trying to keep that in Australia. Next time, lets band together, form a sindicate and keep it here, or make them pay a fvck load for it.
Who was the silly bugger who sold it. Why did they let it go to the Yanks, It should have been only for Aussie Bidders.
That was an example of serious commitment. We can all learn from that!
Commiserations Joel - but in hindsight, a syndicate is a really good idea! I would have gladly donated some money toward keeping that 5* in .au. Even if it did end up on some wall, at least I could raise a macchiato and smile a patriotic smile its way If not, it would have been an honour to ride alongside such a beast
There is always a possiblity of a failing in the sale… say a certain email address were to disappear or get mysteriously full…
Have you contacted the seller? Any chance of a secret cache of more?
I got the impression that the seller only had one. I think that a syndicate of shared ownership, especially an inter-state one, sounds like trouble (ever see that episode of Seachange with “the suit”?) but an agreement to loan to the most enthusiastic buyer whatever their “gap” is at the time would be cool. If I had had a few loans (of >$100 each) approved at the time of bidding I would have gone all the way up to $2000.
Money comes and goes, but some things just go, and don’t return.
He and 4 mates just bought a 1911 Prince Henry Vauxhall 9bit like an old 4 litre Bentley) coz it was up for sale and some pommy bloke was going to take it back to England.
I spose the difference is that 5 of them can sit in a Prince Henry.
It might have been difficult to get 5 on a 5 STAR!!!
