Jim Bundy slow burner project - French-ish/Mixed parts/Pass Hunter

Wow, please keep the photos coming. Looking forward to hearing how it rides.

i love that stem, the rest is alright too i guess.

I’m liking this a lot.

So, it’s done. I’ve ridden the bike before as a single speed but I’m just in awe of the way it looks all kitted out with gears and brakes and other bits. I’ve taken my time … and I’m sorry its taken so long but I wanted to do this one right. It’s sat a few nights and days in the lounge room and I finally broke out the NOS Marcel Berthet Lyotard pedals to finish it off. Suntour Cyclone goodness, a pair of hand made (dodgy?) drillium brake levers (not be me, as found), decaleur and handlebar bag in Frenchy fashion, and an old Brooks B7 Champion Flyer. Oh yeah … leather wrapped bars because Dylan would approve.

Forgot to mention how good the Grand Bois Cypres tyres. They look sweet and I’ll surely report my impressions on how they ride. And that’s it. Always wanted to build this up a little different as it’s meant a lot to me having a bike that Jim built. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to show Jim abnd see what he thinks of it.

Now it’s time to get it dirty and enjoy riding it.

That bike is fit for a spirito. It looks beautiful!

Is it too late for this to win BOTY? Seriously! Such beautiful little details topped off with that awesome chrome frame. Congrats.

Nice work mate. That has come together beautifully. Merry Christmas!

Holy fucking shit. This. This is awesome. Agreed with the above.

Merry Christmas to you too

says it best

Amazing, holy wow.

Lovely. I hope I can see this in person soon.

How does the flipped hanger cope with a hard squeeze on the brake? The (unflipped) one on my tandem is permanently bent towards the HT. Could you run it normally but put the decaleur on top?

See it in person? You can ride it over the hills and far away. It’s actually a better fit for you than me but It’s mine (mine, mine) and I’m keeping it.

The flipped hanger on top was the only way to fit everything in with the short steerer (I’m even using a Campy Pista headset). Don’t know the make or brand. Almost put the project back in the shed until I realized it would work upisde down. The hanger is quite beefy steel and seems to be holding up fine. Looking at the way it’s made I think it’s stiffer as fitted than the normal way. Otherwise there’d be no room for a decaleur mount for the handlebar bag (which it needs).

Option B was to drill and tap the stem but the SR Royal is hollow and milled and doing such would prove very silly. A Cinelli 1A or a Nitto would have been fine to drill/tap and use as a cable housing stop to free up some steerer space/issues.

I’ve still got a few small things to sort out. Sorry, the Simplex rear derailleur is back on the shelf as i needed the longer cage of the SunTour. What a mechanism !!! 180 grams of brilliance. The Koolstop pads really transform the Mafac’s … quite powerful, but I have to even out the brake feel front to back. And I need to shift the driveside crank out by about 1mm so that the inner ring can use all the cogs on the rear (easy with the Phil BB). Old faithful Campy Record front derailleur shifts better than any modern setup I’ve used, wheels roll very sweetly and during the quick ride I’ve had it seems familiar but like riding on air (what a concept Mr. Dunlop !!!).

Thanks for the vote but BOTY has to be fixed gear. Rules is rules.

2.) Choose the bike you like the most out of all those bikes. It can be a track bike, street fixed, commuter, polo bike, conversion, trick bike, whatever, but… it must have a FIXED drive train (no road bikes or SS).

Maybe they’ll consider changing the rules next year. Some of the hottest bikes posted by forum members this year have been road/cross/mtb’s. I know it’s fixed.org but …

far-kin-ell!

it is classic spirito and its built with love and thought.

respec’ mon!

Ha! That would be Facinelli

Rules may be rules but…

Very, very nice work Spirito.

Absolutely love the attention you have put to the fine detail on this bike.
