That’s the pain I get when my adductors and gracilis are too tight.
can’t remember the last time i was able to sit cross legged! haha
false alarm, no dramas. Physio put my knee through its paces and no issues, simply just irritated from being in an awkward position for too long so has become inflamed. Should subside in due course with some anti inflammatories, in the meantime hes got me doing foam rollers on my quad cos tight due to knee.
Is anyone an actual Physio here? I thought the eccentric and concentric movements with pedalling would be good for strengthening the muscles around the knee?
it is, assuming proper position etc, which is usually the issue. I am not a physio.
stopped takin my glucosamine, high strength fish oils, and my calcium & magnesium pills about two months ago just coz they’re expensive & i wanted to see how my knee felt without em.
two months later…
bad. it feels bad.
don’t do it kids. take dem pillzzzzz.
interesting…what made you start in the first place? doc recommendation?
fuck, it was so long ago i can’t remember for sure, but i know my stepdad & brother had always used them for their busted knees (seems pretty much everyone in our family has fucked knees), so i was aware of them, but i originally got physician grade/high potency meds from my ex-gf’s sister who’s a naturopath. pretty sure we would’ve talked about my knee at some point when laura & i were together & she suggested taking them to alleviate the pain from the arthritis that was already present in the joint, and to keep the remaining cartilage etc all healthy & keen to hang around a bit longer. haha
was rudely & agonisingly awoken in the middle of the night by some intense pain in my dodgy knee. i think i was maybe sleeping with it in a weird position & when i moved it was like a knife in the joint. could barely bend my leg & it was making some awful crunching sounds whenever i tried.
in the end, i had to roll over, straighten it out, tense my quad a few times & then slowly start shifting it around until i could bend my leg again. took about 5-10 minutes maybe?
my theory is something’s loose in the joint floating around & managed to wedge itself somewhere it shouldn’t have (under the kneecap, between the bones etc) & when i’ve bent my leg in my sleep it’s jammed in somewhere. was fkn agony!
anyone else had something like this happen? feels pretty much fine this morning. no swelling, can walk fine. maybe a little bit of pain in there, but more a small reminder than anything i’m worried about…
sounds hellish rolu! What will you do?
I’m also getting a bit of knee pain (since being back on the bike) in my right knee which has always troubled me a bit. Not seriously for years tho.
its defo ITB stuff, and I’m pretty confident it’s tight hips. The stretching has worked but now my right glute is tight as fuck. Feels good man.
I have something similar happen, but in my elbow. I factured my ulna at the head of the bone and probably chipped off a little piece (landed on it with my elbow bent). It floats about and sometimes my elbow will lock in a semi-bent position. This is still happening occasionally even now, 25-odd years after the incident. I have to reset my elbow by bending it up then staightening it out. It’s not as painful as yours sounds, though.
I had knee locking issues as a teenager, which were never diagnosed but probably bursitis. My knee would lock, but wasn’t painful, I just coudn’t move my knee by itself. I had to grab it and physically straighten it till something popped and I’d be fine. Yours def sounds like a meniscal tear or cartilage floating about. Dan has let you out for doctor appointments now, yeah?
Yeah, sounds similar to your elbow issue. I’ve had a million small tweaks/twists/injuries to it over the years, there’s 100% some random floaties in there somewhere. Had a recon & microfracture done in 2014 & it’s been pretty good since, but suspect something’s come loose or chipped away since. I stopped taking glucosamine & fish oils earlier this year for a few months, so dunno if that’s related, but think i’ll just keep an eye on it & if it starts happening more regularly i’ll go see my doctor/physio. Suspect the only thing they can do is an arthroscopy (is that what they’re called?) & clean it all up again, but i’d obvs rather avoid that unless it’s really necessary.
those hips don’t lie
wish they did.
I had an arthroscopy (sp?) a few years back. Mine was a medial meniscus tear. If it’s locking, could indeed be a piece that’s torn off, or a flap from a tear. Most of the time they don’t know until they go in and look. But wait and see is probably good if it’s not giving you regular pain or trouble. Cartilage doesn’t grow back (although might be some medical debate on this apparently) so might be best to leave all the cushioning you can.
oh yeah, how i wish they’d figured out a way to regenerate that shit!!
happened again last night, but not as bad. i happened to have an appt with my GP yesterday & mentioned it to him, he seemed to think arthroscopies were on the way out anyway. he didn’t really elaborate on why though, and i didn’t ask coz wasn’t time.
will definitely be keeping an eye on it for now.
ugh. damn this knee.
Coming skating tomorrow Rolls?
I’ve heard/read since I had mine that they just perhaps don’t help that much . They can clean up stuff that might get stuck, but don’t necessarily do anything more. Obvs surgeons also have a vested interest in suggesting surgery for $$. So there’s that conflict of interest to work out.
If it’s anything like mine, the cold weather we’ve having doesn’t help.
Rolu moving to Cairns confirmed.
no fkn way. i’d rather live with chronic knee pain than humidity. #scottishbloodconfirmed
