Agreed. Can’t stand faceplant. 
Think I might hold the record for shortest lasting account on face-thingie. It went like this:
I resisted for years signing up but in the end succumbed as I wanted to access a kayak site.
Joined. woohoo, great!
Locked down all the settings I could as I don’t want to be everyone’s friend, nor have people I don’t know pester me, etc
20mins later get an alert my account is locked out, pending shutdown (or words to that effect) Was invited to prove who I was by uploading a pic or video of myself, some other personal details like a drivers license or passport etc, so they could review and confirm.
Stuff that!
Uploaded a picture of a cute kitten with a pleading face that I found online.
3 minutes later was advised account deactivated permanently, no recourse.
Oh dear how sad never mind

Wonderful and well worded post. Long may this forum last. I MUCH prefer a true searchable forum as an accumulator and repository of knowledge than any of those Facebook groups.
And wanting to help people is as perennial as it is irresistible. Here’s to altruism and sharing the love of cycling.

G’day Gang. Recumbenteer moving in from BNA. This time under my “Nom De Voyage” Rotovelo Across Australia… I’m one of a few “bent riders” in Sydney, and, as far as i know, the only Velomobile Pilot. My reputation might preceed me as being the only velomobile rider that’s crossed Australia twice! for fun!!

“Recumbenteer” IIRC. I’m sure you’ve seen a number of posts from Recumbenteer over the years.
I passed the slowest bent rider I’ve ever seen some days ago. We were riding past Rofe Park at Hornsby Heights heading south. I suspect he/she must have been very old but I didn’t turn to look. Just waved and kept going on my commuter bike. Neither of us were in a hurry to get anyware quickly it seems.

I spose I had to sign up caus I have just got myself a Singlespeed bike !
Out of sheer frustration with the weather.
The eastern Australian weather has become crook this year. It won’t stop raining and I am fed up with cleaning road grime and grit out of my bike. I am hoping that a Singlespeed will be easier to keep clean in the sloshy weather.
You will generally find me riding on the Murwillumbah Railtrail these days. It’s a magnificent community asset and safer than riding on the road. And surprisingly good fun and varied scenery.
But in the past I have done a lot of road riding, including recreational, touring, club racing and commuting. Mainly in Eastern Australia, especially in Northern NSW and Southern Queensland.
Most of my bikes are steel frames and aluminium rims. This is what I am familiar with and cut my teeth on.
I do have one modern bike with hydraulic disc brakes. In more than 40 years of regular bike riding, it is the only bike which I have crashed and sustained significant injuries

Another BNA refugee (bychosis). Glad to see a forum still happening.
Yes, i have a fixie, although since my commute changed to include a couple of gnarly hills it doesnt get used as much as when first built. Lately I’ve moved towards a small fleet of late 90s dually MTBs but mostly ride a flat bar roadie commuter or trek remedy for dirt.

Late to the party as usual - went overseas for a couple of months and BNA vanished! So, another BNA refugee… I was wyvernrh and mostly active in the technical and retro sections. I look forward to resuming those interesting and instructive discissions here on this forum.
I have far too many bicycles in the shed, ranging from 1920’s up to the current day. Tho recently I seem to be acquiring a lot of high quality late 1980’s to early 2000’s machines. Mostly for beer or for free as the owners don’t want them to end up in the tip when they move house or whatever.
I also have far too many parts from the 50s to the noughties stashed away so if you are looking for a specific part, feel free to ask cos all they are doing is gathering dust at the moment.

Inspired by Dalai and the influx from BNA, I’m JP, not new here but have returned over the past couple of weeks due to NJS thoughts.
I remember very fondly the “early” days of this forum, 2006 and 2007 in Melbourne, meeting a bunch of great people because of these pages. Wednesday night ride from the fairly newly built Birrarung Marr was often just a few of us rolling around for 20 minutes and then back to my place to look at fixedgeargallery (also RIP) and trawl retrobike and ebay for parts. DISC was also built just before this time, and i remember some nice trips out there to see if we could stay up on the boards. Hawthorn velo-circle too
Anyway, 20 years later and my kids and wife now get me back riding more. They do track, road, mtb, cx, bmx, all of it, and I sometimes jump in to keep numbers up. I keep in touch with some of those early guys outside the forum.
I’ve always had a lot of bikes, but the quality has improved a lot… everyone has nice road, track, mtb, gravel, bmx rigs in the shed and we are sitting comfortably full at 23 between us at the moment (2 living at the track).
I’m in Belco, Canberra.
