I want!
It’s pretty, but it’s a shame they didn’t spent the little extra on a Eno hub eh?
I couldn’t resist
I bought it yesterday.
Eno hub (fixed / free) and some nice new levers are first on the menu.
What brakes are you goin to run Nath? Also is just my eyes or does that seat post ‘flute’ out just above the clamp?
Will probably run the DX canti brakes that are on there in the short term, they work surprisingly well for old gear. In the long term I might get myself some flashy FRM titanium ones
Not sure which levers to run though, something shinier I’m thinkin, the current ones are old dia-comps and feel pretty spongey (if that’s even a real word).
I haven’t noticed the seat post being fluted, although I haven’t actually checked. :?
I’ll check tonight when I get home and report back.
Keep an eye on it, the lower seat tube tends to break on Montares.
Where exactly do they break?
The guy I bought it off is very reliable, and he stripped and repainted the frame himself. He said the structual integrity of the frame is perfect.
I don’t think I’ll have any issues, I am pretty light on my gear and as this is my third MTB I probably wont use it for heavy off road stuff, I’ve got dual sus bikes for that kind of shenanigans.
Probably somewhere between the BB and the chainstays…!
And no doubt something to do with the fact that the downtube is being asked to do the job that a nice solid BB shell would normally do - transfer the forces from the chainstays through to the front end of the frame…
love it! nice job on the respray!
gary fisher… what a man… yeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaar!
No flute in the post, it’s just a greasy smudge.
mj, I figured that much. I was curious as to whether it was nearer to where the stays meet the tube, or down closer to the BB.
Rode it to work this morning, it’s awesome!
Although it’s geared at 2:1 it still feels extremely fast. The cornering off road is phenomenal and it climbs like a mountain goat on meth!
Can’t wait to give it a proper run off road!
is correct
Thanks, I’ll keep a close eye on it.
Hopefully it’ll be ok.
