Perth to Sydney

A mate of mine is about to begin his trip from Perth to Sydney on his bike.

Stoopid I hear you say.

Well yes I thought so as well. And Alone… double stupid.

Anyway,

check out his bloggy, diary thing.

He also has a facebook page set up which he claims he will be updating every day.

Fark…
Its going to be hot in the middle of the Nullabor.

oh yeah. When he finally gets to Melbourne, I’m planning on riding north for a coupel of days with him if anyone is keen.
Touring bike advisable!

He appears to have also rowed across the North Atlantic, so clearly he is off his tree.

But who isn’t? I look forward to hearing about his trip!

n

Yes, Quite off his tree.
He’s from Texas, and when we were in QLD for the Oz Uni rowing champs, he declared that shaving your sack and sprinkling (what he called) pixie dust on it was the best thing on earth.
Then at 1am one morning he decided to show the cops…

nuff said.

so is it the best thing on earth??

Im at work so cant test it out right now.

Not quite nuff - what’s pixie dust? Just so I fully understand how far off his tree he is (nooo, not planning to try it!!)

The Nullabor would be hell. I drove it in an 83 bluebird with 4 mates sans air con, lets just say the bluebird was dead when we reached Perth

I know a guy who lives in Perth and regularly rides his motorbike across the Nullarbor…and loves it. Of course, he’s a bit of a nut too, in a good way.

A powder similiar to Talc. Jordan called it Pixie dust because it felt like he had pixies dancing on his shaved sack when he sprinkled it on…

motor bikes have built in airconditioning

You might think it’s like that but when you’re sitting on top of an engine in the summer it gets damn hot, especially if you’re smart enough to wear protective gear.

Good on him for the challenge but I would have picked a much more scenic way of doing 4,500km by bike. I’ve done it in the car a few times and there is NOTHING between perth and adelaide. just dead roos. Ks and Ks of dead, rotting roos.

There are a few really nice spots, especially along the Bight, but in my opinion, wouldn’t even come close to making up for the weeks of nothing in between. I’m all in favour of crazy long treks (i’m planning on doing alaska to argentina next year) but I would start in adelaide and go to cape york or something if you’re looking to make up the kms. best of luck though. it’s going to be tough.

I’m always up for a long spot of touring.

Thats one a mate and I have been gassbagging about for years.
I’m going to be living in Canada from May onwards.
perhaps I might join you for a bit of it. Either way, you’ll have to look me up (I’m assuming you going to do the west coast route)

lats, you’ll be in canada? for how long? i am best man at a wedding in august, in vancouver. see you there maybe?

n

Yup, will be there.
One way tickets from Oz to LA, via Fiji.
Purchase car, drive to Vancouver.
No idea how long we’ll be there.
If you need a place to stay, I’ll volunteer the couch that we don’t yet own…

“Oppy” did it in 1930 something on unsealed roads with 2 OR 3 gears on his own in 13 days and a few hours.

SP

Awesome. We were hoping to get people to join us for various legs of it. It’s going to take us long enough as it is without having to meander along the east cost =D

We’ll be in Washington state the start of next year… just somthing to keep in mind.

Noice.
If you need to ski, come on up!!!
