phil wood.hub bearings

ok have bought the miche primato hubs but want to replace bearings, (as i ride daily ride hail or shine and the posts in my last Q’s suggested that the bearings dont hold up in these conditions.) with phil wood how do i work out what size to replace bearings with? thanx for all the patience all.

doing this seems like a good way to upgrade average/good hubs…am i thinking correctly about this?

There’s a ‘standard’ code for bearing sizes.

You need bearings of type: 6001 2RSV38.

It’s a pretty common size. Note also that whoever you take the hubs to for the bearing swap will need a fairly fine bearing puller - clearance inside the hub shell behind the bearing is pretty tight (dunno where you’re located but I know O’Mara’s in Cheltenham have the right one).

I’d also suggest riding the Primato bearings until they die anyway - if you’re not riding in slop much they might last a while - you’ve already paid for them.

(If you really want to swap them out now I’ll take the stock bearings off your hands for a lobster ).

i know people who rode primato everyday of the year for 2 years, over cobble stones and through 2 german winters. outlasted everything else on the bike.
she’ll be right

Mine lasted less than three winter months on Melbourne’s bayside commuter trail - water, sand, salt, dirt, dogshit…

depends on what you’re going to do with them.

If it int broke don’t fix it.
