what about building with a china frame? $3k would get you a bloody good build.
You’d hope to have a bit of change left over with a china frame.
Buy Reid. Buy China frame. Swap. Trade up some parts. Sub-$3k for sure.
that would depend on your components H =D
the frame snob in me say no to the chinarello idea… just something about the look of them says “help me… im cheap” (probably because they are).
Lets prioritise frame quality then.
Saw a 2012 Trek Madone 5.5 in a store today with full ultegra for $3500. Looked pretty decent for the price. Are the trek’s in the same league as giants etc when we’re talking this sort of price point? And, how would the frame weigh up against say, a Tarmac?
fair enough, i guess with current floor stock prices now would be the best time to be snobbish =D
I think Giant sits at the top of the value stakes, while Trek, Specialized and Cannondale would all sit below.
If you don’t want look like every other Hubbard out there I can see the attraction of the smaller brands like BMC and Ridley etc.
yeah, then you can be a Fred. (BMC + Orica/GreenEdge Kit)
Well to be the ultimate Fred you’d need to be riding a Scott with the Orica/GreenEdge Kit…
“See you out there”
I’m selling a (on behalf) 2nd hand (basically new) Focus with ultegra/fsa carbon roadie which is a 56cm from memory for about the budget you’re looking to spend, rest of the money could go to upgrading the parts which aren’t ultegra.
PM me if interested
Ha, I think Giant made those 5-series Madones last year. It’ll be competitive with other Ultegra-level stuff.
CAAD10 with ultegra. Cos fukka carbon.
China carbon frame + china carbon rims + some fancy shit.
Doneski. Use the remainder for beer.
In this price bracket there all much of a muchness,
Buy one that looks cool, if your happy with how your bike looks you will want to ride it more.
Bmc are nise but you will be just as happy on a giant, cannondale specialized.
Just get the coolest bike you can.
Can be had for $2499? In 2012 model. That leaves you some change to go half way towards a nice set of wheels.
Agree with the looks comment.
good call
Azzurri Forza RL Carbon Road Bike - NEW!
$2200 with SRAM red…good bloody deal.
What’s the deal with those azzurri’s? Haven’t heard much about them, but given the group set along is worth about $1700 that’s a pretty solid deal! How much could one hypothetically sell the frame for (to upgrade it but keep the rest of the bike for components…)
