I wanted to know where can I find some seatpost shims??
cheers,
Dubbo.

Try the 7-11
7-11 sipping on some coca cola, use the can for shim?..creative…Thanks anyways ndf.
Yeah, I used beer cans to make a shim. I ended up bailing on it and just getting a slightly less attractive seatpost that actually fit. I didn’t like the idea of over-stressing the lug with a dodgy shim.
There’s a bit in ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’ about shimming with soft drink can. Read that, then make your decision. Slightly thicker is tinned fruit can steel, but prone to rust, natch. Old aluminium drink bottle side is thicker again. Measure seat tube (hole) with vernier calipers, measure seat post (shaft), divide difference by 2, minus .1mm and then get the appropriate shim stock by whatever means. Stack it up if necessary (and/or desperate), but beware the old galvanic corrosion . . . brass is best, if you can find it at old engineering supply places.
I remember that section on shims. The parallel here is only wanting to use Nitto/NJS shims instead of VB/TaB shims.
I’m currently trying to shim up a threadless stem to clamp on a seatpost (xtracycle passenger handlebars) and ended up using an entire can, two layers of Jim Beam’s finest shim stock, wrapped around twice. It’s still too loose for my liking, so I’m going to try either a third layer or some heavier stock.
I’ve shimmed handlebars successfully before, but never tried a seatpost.
For a vertical load bearing application where you’re relying on frictional shear force to keep the post in place, it would probably help if you scuff the surfaces of the can somewhat, as the slippery painted surface and the smooth inner won’t provide much friction.
might help, but i dont know how much shipping would be/if it would be worth it/etc
Plenty’o’sizes here
Mad Cane Creek ones on eBay…
you can get aluminiun flashing at the hardware store, normally too thick but you might get something that will fit if it is as thich as it sounds.
After losing patience with multiple layers of coke cans, I used electrical tape…
After coming to my senses, I popped into Bunnings this evening and picked up their lightest aluminium flashing. It does the job perfectly! Thanks for the advice.
