Watch out for toe ovelap. My fixie is an old road frame conversion with pretty relaxed geometry and no overlap. Since I put the mudguards on there’s enough that it’s annoying when doing tight turns at low speed and occasionally when track standing. A mate of mine had a frame like mine which failed so he got an Avanti Pista frame. So much overlap that he had to turn it into a SS.
I reckon relaxed geometry is bettter for commuting since it’s more comfortable. I suspect a lot of the off-the-shelf fixies are probably fairly relaxed. Track frames will be pretty aggressive.
If you don’t have access to the tools or know-how, off the shelf is probably easiest. Building from parts is more rewarding though.
Am focusing on finding the new 2009 Schwinn Madison. I am trying to chase down the black tho and bike shops are like “Black. WTF black. We only ordered the yellow”.
Sif buying a bike should be this hard.
Will buy the yellow Schwinn if it comes down to it I suppose.
The yellow is actually growing on me. I have made inquiries around Brissy. I liked the black instantly, but the yellow is looking pretty nice.
I would definitely change the handlebars and maybe the stem. I will probs be a heathen and run brake hoods, I can’t see myself rocking bmx brakes or similar on the tops.
