Spanner foolery - but how bad?

I was rebuilding my Crank Bros Candy SL’s for the first time yesterday. Tightening the nut on the 2nd pedal, I did it too tight, and stripped something.

Anyone done this before? Am I likely to have stripped the spindle or the nut?

Any tips on getting the nut off? I’ve already tried the needle nose pliers with no success.

Meanwhile, I’ll pour myself another drink…

Ok, so I know I’ve fucked it. The question now is: Can I at least rescue the brand new rebuild kit parts: rubber seals, spacer and bearings?

Any ideas on how to get a bolt off a threaded spindle?

Or,

How do I get a threaded nut off?

Or,

Should I just use the bench vice & angle grinder??

Go the vice and angle-grinder route, or a Dremel if you can get a hold of one.
You pretty much have to cut it if its ‘stripped on’, unless you can somehow pull it towards the undamaged thread and spin it off.

You can get it off. Like spud said you need to give it outward force while turning the nut. To do this put the pedal in a vice and apply the outward force with a pry bar and turn the nut with the spanner. You probably won’t get it first go buy try a few different position and you’ll get it eventually. If you do get it off you can tap a smaller thread on the shaft and use a smaller nut. But that’s a lot of hassle if you don’t have the gear.
Next time do it just firm and use loctite.
