So for a while now i have wanted to put the Tommasini into semi retirement/nice weather sunday ride.
I am good friends with a specialized, cannondale dealer and looked at the tarmac it seams to suit all my needs but i wanted campy and some nice bits so a custom build it was.
Here’s the frame
The frame is 11r high mod and is about 850gms frame, fork and headset.
The group is super record 11 2010.
Looking at 42 3t ergonova ltd with a 90-100 extralite oc stem.
wheels i am still chasing, may be some 2nd hand euros.
This will be a budget build around $4000-$4500 finished.
but i’m guessing it would retail for about double that if off the shelf.
Not chasing a final weight and have no idea what it will be but hopefully around 6.5kg
That BB shell looks nice and stiff. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this thread!
budget build…jeebus.
I took one for a spin specked with what i am building it with, it was so responsive but also compliant.
They are stiff where needed.
I have bulged disc’s in my neck and get a lot of pain so i’m going comfort over aero.
budget compared to off the shelf models.
for that i would get alloy parts and athena.
Hmm I’m all about this build!!! The frame might be around 850g but that defaulty doesn’t include the fork and headset…
My parlee was 863g for the Frame alone… And it’s not a porky peice of kit.
sorry i think that is frame only.
heres what i found
Despite its superlative stiffness, the Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL3 is incredibly light. More specifically, the Tarmac SL3 the lightest production module in the world (module includes frame, fork, cranks and seatpost), weighing in at 2,047 grams.
4,500 off the shelf will only get you
i call bull shit, 4,500 off the shelf will get you carbon and a decent groupset(=centuar/ultegra/rival/force) with wheels that will be fine,
sorry dude i know what your doing is budget to what it would cost off the shelf for what you want, i know i just did the same with my roadie end cost 3,700 and its cheap for what it is but still i could of got somthing comparabale to what i built for that price, but it wouldnt of been what i wanted so thats why i(and i assume you) built a custom bike
also this looks rad, and as much as im one to dish out crap on campag, i think this will be killer, keen to see the finished product
Yeah it will get red/rival with a lower spec 10r frame and specialized cranks.
If you could buy 11r high mod frame with super record and 3t ltd bars for $4500 id buy it.
SR 11, 3t ltds that’s not fucking around!! Balling! I’m calling low 6
I can help with that!
These frames are super nice, nice and stiff BB and very light. If only I had the funds This will be awesome built up.
If you want comfort, why arent you looking at the roubaix?
yeah its a little less aggressive/racy in its geo, but my limited experience on one (and a number of detailed reviews) had it as more of an all day rider.
I road a tarmac and a roubaix back to back, with exactly the same set up and spec. The difference in vibration damping was very noticable.
Zerts aren’t cool…
And the roubaix weighs a lot more than 850 grams I would assume?
Zertz inserts do look pretty
The roubaix zeros are to ugly and yeah it was heavier.
Fuck that!!
The ergo LTDs will help a lot killing any buzz
My mate road his new sl2 this morning for the first time…
Felt every hit!! He’s running alloy bars right now and they really don’t help!!
I’m going to look at a price for a set of the THM m3 cranks with the BB30 set up…
Should save me around 300g
If you and gypsy need any thing from fair wheel bikes let me know…
I get 10-15% off and we can spread the postage around…
A nice light topcap ( tune, pop or extralite ) and an extralite expander are a totall must. Easy 40-50g saving over std setups
I need some scales.
Haha
Given your stable of bikes i’m surprised you’ve gone for a Specialized.
Quality,
I love italian bikes but the most of it these days is shit rolled in glitter,
