good work Angry, still it dosn’t seem like that much weight given like you said, it’s a fully loaded touring bike, but hey he’s the one doing the mega miles not me…
on the rare occasions when a chain is thrown, the cog can unscrew if needed.
figured it could be some kind of safety thing like that, although for me it would be more for when my legs cramped up once i’d hit the centy mark.
holy crap this post has turned into a useful dialogue about fixed gears, i even learnt something. its like its going in reverse, started by ragging on peeps transtions to interesting info. :?
Sorry, wasn’t clear, the weight of the lockring isn’t the issue, it’s the weight of the fully loaded bike and rider - way too heavy for leg-braking to be practical in touring conditions. Picture yourself descending from kinglake on a fixie with 50kgs of gear onboard, spinning at 150rpm, only using leg-braking - you’re gonna be knackered if you reach the bottom in one piece
If your lockring is holding your cog on then you have not done the cog up tight enough. You can leg brake with no lockring and there is bugger all chance of the cog unscrewing if it’s properly affixed.
