talk to me about upgrading my first fuji feather

looking at these mavic open pros, seem like good value for money at about $250 including shipping. i’m moving back to japan soon so thinking about having the wheels shipped directly there and then picking up the drivetrain parts after i arrive.

2012 Black Mavic Open Pro

good deal?

Good deal, yes. But those are road wheels: freehub rear, quick release front and rear.
You want a track/fixed wheelset.

is it not possible to attach a fixed cog on those threads?

quick release is actually a bonus for me, being in japan you gotta take ur wheels off and put your whole bike in a bag to take it on the trains.

There is no thread, there is a freehub body. And quick release generally doesn’t clamp tight enought for riding fixed, especially when breaking. QR is still OK for the fron though

Freehub

forgive another n00b question, but can the hub be swapped out?

Red Fuji Feather - Pedal Room

beautiful. mine is the same vintage and colour.

Not easily. Virtually a no.

Miche Pistards are $200 at wiggle but there’s all kinds of off the shelfies.
Carry a spanner if you want to remove your wheels for the train. You’ll need a spanner for when you get a flat anyway.

Velomine.com have plenty of fixed / track wheelsets with good rims and hubs.

So your in japan yeah? you should go check out the NJS stuff since you wouldn’t even pay shipping?!?!? win?

Track Supermarket - NJS/Keirin track/fixed gear bikes, frames, and parts from Japan

I think these are pretty bad ass
ARAYA 16B GOLD NJS keirin rim - 700c 36h - $95.00 : Track Supermarket - NJS/Keirin track/fixed gear bikes, frames, and parts from Japan

yabai, i don’t need anything that awesome/expensive i don’t think.

I really would not change to much,
It is just not really worth it, just ride it and if you really want to upgrade just buy a nice frame and start from scratch

Classy.

Hi there! does anyone know the stock BB specs of the feather? changing to a set that fits 103mm.

Hope you’ve gotten your answers already. Anyway the Feather mates with english-threaded BB cups. That’s all you need to know on the frame-side of things. What’s more important is what the crankset accepts to give you a good chainline. You choose a BB based on the crank, not the frame.
