sorry to dredge up an old thread; i have the same problem with the tight spot on the chain. my bike mechanic tried explaining to me this method, but i’m not entirely confident to give it a go just yet. i tried looking on youtube for some videos but no dice. do you know of any videos on the internet showing this? or should i just give it a go, and if i fail take it into my mechanic?

i’d give it a go if i were you. have a read through all of the above info and go for it. you can always take it to the LBS if you think you’ve messed it up.
JLN, how did this all work out for you? was it the chainring/cranks?
