tools and truing stand

hey all just putting the finishing touches on the better half’s bike. anyone got a truing stand in melbourne i could borrow for a beer or two?

also looking for a headset press for the fork race and the best place to pick up some bearing grease.

all she need do now is pick out some bars and a saddle and we’ll be ready to roll.

Just fit the headest yourself! Worked for me at least.

For bearing grease, so and get some Phil grease from Abbotsford Cycles.

Just out if interest, how much is a tube or tub of this?

I would tend not to ghetto install the crown race. It’s very easy to fuck it up without the right tool. Cups you can usually get away with.

And while I use and recommend Phil grease, pretty much any grease will do the job. But Phil is green and smells funny

It’s not that cheap - last time it cost me $10 for a tube. Not sure how many ml’s but it’s a bit bigger than a tube of toothpaste I guess. But then again, I’ve barely used any of it so far.

Yup $10 a tube. Theres plenty more exxy greases out there. Phil is not as sticky and nasty/messy as a cheap auto grease. And it’s green.

mentioned in another thread that i can’t be bothered to look for right now.
good ghetto headset press can be made from a length of threaded bar, 3 nuts and 1/2 a dozen washers.
tighten two of the nuts together to make a solid end and tighten the single one for the actual press.
saw anouther quite good one made from some long threaded forks that the guy didn’t need any more. same deal, bunch of solid washers to fit inside the cup.

headset cups are already done. getto all the way. headset race on fork - not too keen on gettoing that one. i might just take it in to ab cycles on my way to work tomorrow. shouldn’t be to $$

i was going to go the auto grease in a big ol’ tub. but at $10 a tube and only a couple of bits to do it should do the trick.

many thanks for the help. hoping to have it all sorted by the weekend. (though without a paint job…

daFrog - i’ll send you a pm.

Not as cheap as the threaded rod option, but not too bad:

And they’re made in Sydney by a local machinist. (who is also starting to make custom CNC track cogs as well, I’ll post mine when I get my hands on it)

Wow those look super nice! I love the chainring jig and the bolt-on sprockets. I might hae to pick up a few once they go on sale.

It won’t load for me.

Anyone else having this problem?

Yeah … looks like their printer is on fire. give it an hour or so. It was working about 30mins ago.
