Value for money - Campy Chorus Vs Shimano 6800?

ftfy.

Great info so far, thanks for the discussion. Head (& wallet) says Ultegra, heart and passions say Chorus.

The bike is the build up that I have previously asked about for a big 2017 France TdF trip. Most likely steel lugged, either a Colossi Mondail or an Ebay sourced Italian (?) frame. Riding will mostly be long distances (>100k) and / or climbs.

Driven heavily by budget, but swayed by style and suave. If I can get the frame at the right price, I am leaning towards Campy.

If you’re tall, maybe a singular Osprey?

^ At that price take the groupset and flip the frame.

Value for money and campy dont really go together. Have you seen campy cassette prices even for veloce?

This is why the discussion is difficult: by the time Campy is seriously considered there’s a lot more at play than just bang-for-buck. Ergonomics, status, brand loyalty, aesthetics, yadayada are all factors here.

6800 is clearly better value, but I think hvymtl nailed it, theres obviously more going on, you know what, it’s just a bike, pick one and go, change your mind in a year? change your groupset, don’t lose any sleep over it

Mi laekem. Imagine some shiny Chorus on it. Yummmmmmm

But but but… will he be able to sleep with dat damn noisey Campy drivetrain?

Too small. I looking for a 61-62 ST c-c with a 58cm TT c-c, I’m 192cm. Plus preference is for lugged.

I think this is the crux of my internal conflict. I am trying to fit my particular preferences for the frame and groupset which sit outside the bounds of “bang for buck” within a constrained budget.

Might be time to sell some stuff :frowning:

Osprey (if available) is lugged, quill stem and 60ST/59.5TT?
