I have powered speakers attached to it there is no volume control from the table itself.
If that makes sense
Your record player has an inbuilt Pre-Amp. you need to plug you player into an amp or if you dont have one, something with line in (most stereos, iPod dock speakers). Also on the back there is probably a thin cable. thats the Earth. you need to sort that out too.
oh i see. i shall invest.
You can just use an iPod dock thing if you dont have the money.
Thats what i use. Though in saying that, most of the music i listen to on vinyl is pre 1970, Mono or are recordings from old 78’s so booming crystal clear sound isnt that big a deal for me.
This thread has inspired me to set this guy up after moving in with my girlfriend. Combining stereo parts was a definite plus of the next step in our relationship. Apologies for the bad phone photos.
Marantz 2220B amp (I bought it for her a few years ago. Now I get to enjoy it!)
Marantz TT130 (given to her for free from a friend)
Dantax speakers (don’t know anything about them apart from they’re Danish, look pretty cool, and appear to have had a driver replaced at some stage - they have different sized dust caps. Picked them up in great condition from a tip recycling store for $30 and they sound great with this system.)
Total system set us (me) back under $200.
I’m looking forward to poking around in shops for records again.
ps. the vinyl record posing in the shot is for JLN.
nice amp!
I remembered I have this in my collection back home
Its Let It Be in its entirety but by a gothic/industrial Slovenian band. Its interesting to say the least.
Found it at a sallies for a buck!
what’s everyone else ‘strangest album’?
Nice altar, bro !!!
In Melbz? Looking for a starter set up? Get onto this …
Prayed to a few gods and made a few sacrifices last night… until GF got home and put on Bee Gees
That’s a steal if it stays around the $100 mark!
Even up to around $350 I think it’s good buying. Maybe I’m just a sucker for a reel to reel !!!
Never had one, no need for one, no tapes/reels to play … yet I drool every time I see one. Way cool imo
I have a reel to reel tape player at home, I have no idea what to do with it. It also has a cartridge player. Apparently it works. thimk i might try and sell it but i have no idea what its worth.
Here is out decommission corner at work, if you like R2R:
(excuse the dodgy photo)
My current set up is an old late 60s/early 70s technics turntable, into a mid 90s Sherwood RX2030R amp, running late 80s panasonic book shelves, as my kids punctured the woofers on my nice Wharfdale speakers and I haven’t bothered replacing. We run our TV through the same system so use the DVD player for Cds, and the 2nd Aux output for MP3s.
My record player needs a new cartridge - where’s the best place to buy in Sydney, that isn’t dumb expensive?
They generally sell for very little. Better off keeping it … and making a lurve pad but in reality most of us end up with a geek stereo altar

What end’s up happening:
I’d pay good money to be left alone in that room for 15min’s with the lights off !!!
Actaully … more $'s with the lights on.
Sad. One channel is dead, just hums.
This one’s going back.
^ The B&O amp/tuner? Bummer.
dang.
Re: R2R, mates have them but they don’t really have anything good to play on them.
same with a friend who has an 8 track in his 1979 volvo station wagon, although he will scour any op shop for 8 tracks, last time I saw him he only 10 or so.
you’d have to drive smooth.
Portable style players are always kinda cool, but you know they’d sound bad
