G’day,
Moving to Sydney next year, working in the CBD and looking for ideas on suburbs to live in that’d have a bike friendly commute to work. Don’t care how far (up to 30km) but would like some kind of bike lane/path. You know what I mean.
Haven’t heard much good stuff about commuting in Sydney, hence the question.
Needs to be a suburb with houses/townhouses (i need space for nine bikes and a dog) so not an apartment. Rent up to $600 a week. have been thinking about somewhere like Balmain.
yeh, redfern is good. i also really like annandale. im looking at a place in st peters at the mo. really, anywhere south of the bridge and less than 5 kms from the city is good, as long as you can find a house thats affordable…
I was asking my sister about this last week, was interviewing for a job also in the CBD. it didn’t work out but she suggested newtown / surry hills as inner-inner city places. I wouldn’t mind being a bit further out – my greatest concern was being near a rail line.
lynn from CTA is down in kingsford. I easily walked from UNSW down Anzac Parade to his place when I picked up my hubs… and it’s not that far from kensington / randwick to oxford st, and then on to the city.
my only word of advice is make sure you stay away from flight paths …
Newtown if you can find a place to rent there. Plenty of culture and bars and shit. I’ve never ridden around sydney, but i feel like that would be a very comfortable distance, haha.
imho, newtown is a bit shit. a lot of shitty “alt” culture makes for a great place to visit for eating and drinking but not a great place to live. and its the electro/goth of australia. look a little further north or east.
i guess i meant north of newtown, sort of glebe/chippendale/annandale. im in alexandria and its a great spot. close enough to stuff, but not that many cunts.
Like i told you the other day lillyfield/annandale/rozelle(although small houses) but newtown is a right-of-passage kinda place …in now sucks if you are not 19.
