will this work? i can stretch the frame out with relative ease to fit the rear wheel into the track ends, but is it safe to do?
What hub is it? Can you reaspace it?
In most cases it will be fine and i’ve done it myself. But i think it depends a bit on the steel, i have known times that 531 has cracked due to being under constant stress from running a wider hub than intended.
Depends a bit on the tubing. If you’re gonna use a 130mm hub you’re better off respacing the frame to 130. If you don’t respace it you might find it tricky to get perfect chain tension because the track ends won’t be perfectly parallel.
Let somebody who’s experienced respace it for you. It’s cheap to do and easy to fuck up if you don’t know what you’re doing (like most things I guess).
Get a new hub…

thanks folks.
i’m helping to setup a bike for a friend. he’s got some cheap wheels that he was going to fit a freehub conversion/spacer kit to, but i think i’ve convinced him to sink some coin into some quality wheels, which will do justice to the rest of the build which is looking a treat!
