we can do post ride portraits, #awol #totesrad #hardridesbro
As far as I can tell, all roads are sealed.
here’s a bit of info on the Hotel:
Killarney Hotel | Killarney Queensland
werd, dates work!
So my recommendation is we should all stay at the pub. that way you won’t have to go outside as much at night.
they have a hotel and a motel option.
i just gave them a call:
hotel is upstairs at the pub, single rooms, shared bathroom - comes with breakfast $50
motel option (attached to same building) you get your own bathroom - $90
they will let us keep our bikes in our rooms!
as long as i dont have to smell scotts stools ill be keen for any accoom
bennett if you take a crux with luggage i will high 5 you.
You need to see shirts touring bike.(tt bike with thongs, boardies and a singlet taped to the tt.) oh and a bank card for two long blacks and beer.
Not that this is going to change anything but Head rd (basically the range bit up to Killarney) was closed for years. The only way up was via Carney Creek Rd which is dirt. As of last week Head rd was reopened and the route planned is good.
There is stuff at Mt Alford after Boonah. The pub there is good with cyclists, as they get a lot training out there. Next to the pub is a park with water and a public toilet with 2ply.
One thing I would check with the pub at Killarney is that there is no karaoke. Seriously. I stayed at the Blackbutt pub on an overnight ride and Dolly and Kenny pushed through until about 1pm. Made next day suck.
Went to the Killarney pub once as a kid when dad built a house out there, we were stared at for being out of towners.
thanks brad!
how tough do you reckon this ride will be?
I think it will be pretty tough - but I am pretty soft. The biggest thing will be the climbing with the extra weight compared to a normal days ride. Because of this you will have to work off a lot lower average speed then you might expect.
The road from Ipswich to Boonah has some long rolling hills, not to bad. A couple of KM’s south of Mt Alford is a mini range you have to pop over. It is steep but only short. The ride up to the top of the range will be the killer, but on the flip side it’s about 20km down hill to Killarny from there.
There are lots of options for start/finishes. You could start at Brisbane, Ipswich or even Boonah depending on your enthusiasm level. I was even thinking of doing a dirt route from Boonah to Killarny (70% gravel) but it would be better if everyone stayed together for lols and adventure yarns etc.
Packing,
What would you pack?
Jeans/Shorts
baselayer/shirt
Windbreaker
Shoes
Fresh socks
Toiletries
I guess thats really of off the bike during the time in the pub
Snacks and water on the bike,
Would you take a second kit for day two or just air out your kit over night?
Toiletries? fresh socks?
This isnt a polo tournament, Im not a fucking peasant
You’re not a pack-horse either, I’ve seen you climb, pack light.
^^ lol
WILL be cold!
Good call… let do this… edit as you see fit
One Kit.
Jeans/Shorts > Fek carrying jeans I’d day. Maybe leg warmers + Boardies and you can wear the leg warmers next morning and sleep in da boardies??
baselayer/shirt > Take shirt + base layer in ya bag, sleep in both and wear the base layer next morning under you stinky jersey. Plus it will be pre warmed
Windbreaker > Yes.
Shoes > Thongs? I dunno but I don’t want to carry shoes all the way there and back.
Fresh socks > Surely right!!
Toiletries > Mini paste and a chuck out brush. I put some chamois cream into a 1/4 “snappie” bag on my last T-Bar mission for the next morning.
Snacks/ Water/ Spares/ Tools in jersey and on bike
Thoughts…

Jeans could still be an option since it will be cold at night and we’d be spending most of the night at the pub if they even have dress code
We could always just wear tights …
i rekon wind breaker/vest, arm and leg warmers should be fine in the bike, maybe even booties or double socks
