Get the bib knicks, totally worth it.
I got mine from le-knicks on beach road. But make sure you get some with decent calf grippers around the bottom. Or they just end up around your knees.
+1 for bib nicks, but make sure you have a crap BEFORE you leave the house.

It can be rather ‘compromising’ when you’re in a toilet with bib knicks…
The other option is to have full-length tights, and a pair of normal short knicks over the top.
why would you wear the padded shorts over the top? :?

Well the tights aren’t padded, while the shorts are. It means that in summer you can still use your shorts.
Or maybe 2x pairs of pads for really LONG rides. 
+1 for bib nicks - much better than shorts.
Dont wear tights and nicks over the top or any combination of two bottoms. Its a recipe for saddle sores.
still doesnt explain why you wear the padded shorts over the unpadded tights (unless im reading your responses wrong)… but then horatio you are a source of modern wonder. 
If I see you riding knicks without bibs I’ll dack you at the back and fold them under your saddle.
Hilarious and usually fixes the problem.
