4 Star Malvern Star

Picked up this 1938 4 star track bike today off the original owner who had it made for him , He tells me it is made with 531 molybium (if thats the correct spelling) tubing usually used on the 5 star frame but got it at 4 star price . It has all the original BSA components , The wheels were replaced 20 year ago and the seat post bolt and bar stem bolt are replacements.Seat is Brookes b17 sprinter, Bars are Fitsgeralds. He stripped and serviced this bike every week in readiness for race day and won quite a few NQ championships on it. It was repainted years ago to keep individuality and has been kept indoors since. I also have the option of buying the track shoes hand made by Windsor Smith as worn in the first photo.

that’s fucking nice!

any luck you’ll have people feelin’ your arse like in the first pic, too.

Very nice…

I hope you’re not planning on riding that on the street. That’s gotta be a track only machine IMHO. Or even better, hang it on a wall in your loungeroom.

its spelt molybdenum.
green with envy. that is one of the nices bikes i have seen for quiet some time.

Man you gotta get some black Aerospokes to put on that thing yo

or…not

That thing is awesome mate, it’s really nice to see an old paint job like that still intact.

What’s your connection to the owner? Older family member?

The result of a $18 wanted add in a country Newspaper .

i love this bike.
all too few of them left now, and even fewer in this kind of condition.
i’d love to see it in the flesh, but since that would probably mean that it was being ridden brakeless on brisbane roads, i hope i never do.
it would be a tragedy to see thing eaten by some muppet in a range rover who forgot to look.
but proof that beautiful old bikes still exist out there of you look for them.
well done that man.

I’ve got a vague feeling that lugged four stars are more uncommon than five stars.

Either way, nice score.

Thats amazing. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I can only imagine the tragedy if some clueless nonce had happened upon it.

Wow, very very nice.

Please dont destroy it

awesome.
I dare say the bloke who owned it would be pleased that it was going to a good home.

Did you pay the $18…

sensational, it just looks like it wants to go fast, nice geom well done on finding such a great keeper!!

I think he placed a want ad in the country papers and the owner responded wanting to sell?

Similar to TC scouting out old bikes gathering dust in garages and clubs in Vic.

Verrrry nice bit of history though. Definitely grab the shoes and any other info on its pedigree. It’s much more interesting with a story behind it.

must be one of the nicest (restored or otherwise) classic aussie frames surviving.

you know, it’d look fucking great in orange.

i think it looks horrid.

wow! its beautiful! im so jealous!

i agree, no street time for this pretty girl.

definitely track or on the wall!

enjoy!

Is that because it isn’t NJS stamped…

Decided not to hang on to it hey?

it would appear not!

How much will she go for???
step right up ,
place your bets!
