Couldn’t help but post this.
Pretty funny account of a ‘new’ commuter and his tribulations on Melbourne’s bikepaths.
Must admit i have been on both ends of the required etiquette…
Not sure what the other 500 rules are, but there should be one about what happens on the bikepath stays on the bikepath and is not used to further your journalist career. No?
Havin a look aound on The Age website i found this article from 3 years ago written by the ex roads minister saying cyclists shouldn’t have any rights on the road and it was his intention to get us off the road. Awesome. Cyclists do not have the same rights as motorists on roads
love the “you don’t pay rego or anything for upkeep of the roads” argument. i would pay a fee to ride freely on the road then the motorist would have nothing to say.
Here’s a positive article focusing on Portland, showing a well implemented bike path system and encouraging cycle commuting saves the roads authority money aswell as reducing traffic volume and comute times and costs drasticaly less to build and maintain than highways. How cycling inspired a city
There are lanes, however, showing which side of the path it is advisable for you to cycle on if you prefer, say, not to crash into other cyclists or force them off the path.
There’s only one rule: Keep left or die, mother fucker.
Rule 437: Always look before you spit. (although most of it ends up on your jersey (tee) anyways you may actually hit some unsuspecting codger on his bicycle.)
