A question of ethics

if a bike has been locked up and then mostly stripped ie, wheels, seat, and appears to be dicarded.

Would it be ok to take the mud guards?

Sounds like bad karma.

Go to the bicycle recycle and buy some for $10 so you can sleep at night.

Or, leave a note.

how longs it been sitting there?
free is better than $10

is that the bike sitting in brunny street
its been there for a while

is that the fuji bike just out of cbd? white frame?

i would liken that to a dead body who’s had a wallet stolen already…can you take the dead guy’s phone then? or pants?

it’s still stealing, unless you are sure it is discarded and unwanted.

TAKE IT!

sounds like to me some fucker has dumped their bike there… its your duty to clean up the streets one mud guard at a time…

im pretty sure, its been there for at least a week

Sounds like we need a poll.

This is a tough moral quandary. And I think the question comes down to: how long does a bike have to be locked in one place to be considered abandoned? If it isn’t abandoned, then taking the guards is stealing. If it is abandoned, why just take the mudguards?

+1

abandoned bikes dissuade people from taking up riding. They should be canaried after a week and then have their locks ground off if not claimed in that time.

no poll.

I did it anyways

now i have mud guards.

i think im gonna go back for the risers now.

Take what you need. Someone would do it to you if it were your bike.

to me it all depends on how fast you are at taking these mudguards and if there is anyone around…if your slow and theres people around your gona end up feeling shit. but if your fast and the streets are empty go son go!

+1

also, atleast you’re going to get some use out of them… certainly better than leaving 'em there to be trashed further

while we’re on the topic, there was a semi-stripped fuji (looked like a flat-bar roadie) just by Weary Dunlop on the way home tonight

was it white? i think it used to have mudguards…

yep white Fuji on StKilda road, took the mudguards on Sunday, Awesome.
