RIP.

Did everything I asked of her.

Just a note to those grinding out the gear change lug thingy. It can create a weak spot in the frame :-o

Holy crap - looks like i won’t be taking the angle grinder to my frames any more :-o

nice job with the bike, pitty about the frame though
gotta keep that in mind for next time

Shit! Did it break clean like that or did you help it? I had an old roadie that did a similar thing, but that was just a crack that got progressively worse…never broke through though (well, not before I got rid of it.) New frame ahoy!

in future, just use a hack saw then a file to take off the braze ons

I gave it a kick when I got home to see what would happen. It was only cracked 3 qaurters of the way round whislt still on the way home

haha whoops! so glad i saw this before having a go at the shifters on mine (obviously devastated for you). I’m curious on the exact details of the removal process you used so I don’t make the same mistake?

its a good looking bike. pretty shithouse about the frame.

Just leave them on. You’re not fooling anyone and if this happens, it ain’t worth the trouble.

+1 its a road conversion, always will be a road bike and its never going to be a tarck bike.

some people waste rediculous time and money converting bikes when you can find yourself a decent track frame for the cost of an old roadie+stripping+powdercoat/paint. Even worse when they spend money to change the dropouts.

hey, i have a road conversion. didnt do a thing to it other than the obvious.

Ah so thats how to do it  But using the grinder is so much more fun !

It was grinder all the way. I Tried to not get the area too hot whislt grinding. I didnt scallop in to the frame at all with the grinder and cleaned the last of it up by filing and sanding. There was also a crack developing on the seatstay which had had no grinder treatment. I’ve only got one photo of it after I had finished grinding the pic is not that clear though

Where’s the fun in that ?

I took a hacksaw to the frame mounted shifter lugs on my old REPCO, took 5 mins with a saw, and 10 mins with a file and looked pretty good. Still needs a tidy up, but when its that easy there’s no need for a grinder.

Yea but if your doing skids, you can easily cut up your legs if youre “going deep”

nice job on the bike. shame about the frame.

bummer about the frame, next time use an oxitorch to melt the brazing, pull off the little cable loops and file it smooth.
