Shit! Did it break clean like that or did you help it? I had an old roadie that did a similar thing, but that was just a crack that got progressively worse…never broke through though (well, not before I got rid of it.) New frame ahoy!
haha whoops! so glad i saw this before having a go at the shifters on mine (obviously devastated for you). I’m curious on the exact details of the removal process you used so I don’t make the same mistake?
+1 its a road conversion, always will be a road bike and its never going to be a tarck bike.
some people waste rediculous time and money converting bikes when you can find yourself a decent track frame for the cost of an old roadie+stripping+powdercoat/paint. Even worse when they spend money to change the dropouts.
hey, i have a road conversion. didnt do a thing to it other than the obvious.
Ah so thats how to do it  But using the grinder is so much more fun !
It was grinder all the way. I Tried to not get the area too hot whislt grinding. I didnt scallop in to the frame at all with the grinder and cleaned the last of it up by filing and sanding. There was also a crack developing on the seatstay which had had no grinder treatment. I’ve only got one photo of it after I had finished grinding the pic is not that clear though
I took a hacksaw to the frame mounted shifter lugs on my old REPCO, took 5 mins with a saw, and 10 mins with a file and looked pretty good. Still needs a tidy up, but when its that easy there’s no need for a grinder.
