Baglini/Somec Frame vs De Rosa

Don’t know the guy but he was really helpful giving me info about my de rosa including value. Clearly knows his stuff.

By the nature of your comment I can only assume you are either envious or jealous of those who can afford expensive frames/brands. Most people buy what they can afford, but just because someone has a little more to throw around, does it really warrant being sledged as a rich wanker? C’mon!

Back on the topic, I’ve purchased NOS Campy rims off Geoff and all I can say is he’s a genuine lad who won’t disappoint so don’t hesitate. He is honest in his description and condition of parts and is prompt to reply to emails.

You might want to take another look at his avatar and think again.

envy and jealousy it aint, sarcasm might be a bit closer to the truth though

plus i dont now much about either of these brands but they both look hot, either way im sure it will be a win

classic!! TOTES rich wankers… hahahah!

The Somec pisses all over the repainted De Rosa.

Don’t know about you lot but for me the De Rosa kills the Somec and eats it for breakfast.

Sadly I can only afford two:

Haha, very funny ^… (that was meant to be a joke right). You should get a new crank-set for that fixie. Another Chainring just takes up more weight and plus, a bike like that deserves the very best.

pretty sure its a road bike without a rear mech fitted man.

Right you are HMC. I had retired the yellow De Rosa Vision frame and was toying around with converting it to a SS without a tensioner. I was using a spare rear wheel with a 10 speed cluster along with a spare crank set to see what chainring-sprocket combination would work as the bike has vertical drops. Decided to shelve it because the whole reason I retired the frame was because it has a hairline crack across the top/seat tube junction. I hadn’t quite let go of it at that stage. Wondering if I should take a hacksaw to it so I don’t tempt fate?

Hope this is a joke?! send it to me and I will repair the frame  been doing a few frame repairs lately and they are turning out pretty nicely

No joke. The frame is aluminium. As far as I know (having never actually welded aluminium) you can’t just re-weld/braze it like steel, it needs to be heat treated, and even then I’ve heard it can be risky. Plus any repair = absolutely destroyed paintwork = more $$$. Given that the model that replaced the Vision model (Vega) goes secondhand for around $300-400 on ebay I would rather a frame that has no cracks versus one that has had one repair and is waiting for another crack to appear somewhere else. Aluminium has a finite lifespan and I’m happy to let this one go to the wall, we had some good times and I’d hate for my last ride to be with it disintegrating underneath me at 70kph down a hill.

I work with Aluminium (I mostly TIG weld rather than braze)

Also have the facility to heat treat and peen to remove residual stresses after cold working/welding

But yeah may be a pricey endevor for an alu repair… I’m sure it looks regal upon your wall

I’ve had aluminium repairs and modifications done by both Gripsport (victoria), who is fantastic, and a local aluminium welder who usually builds aluminium and steel rollcages for rally cars. He’s excellent at doing lightweight tubing on bike frames. He’s usually about $50.
