Baglini/Somec Frame vs De Rosa

Anyone know any information on Baglini??
A google doesn’t bring up much…maybe that it’s a Italian team…hard to tell.
Thinking about buying this…or a deRosa signature series NOS (just about) from the 80s…a couple hundred difference (Somec is cheaeper…and used).

if you’re the type of guy to treat your bike well, go the de rosa, that frame is truly beautiful
if not, the somec

+1 de rosa over that anyday

The Somec does have some sexy paintwork though…

yep.

i like it a lot.

but yeah…if anyone knows anything about the baglini thing…would be interested to know anything about 'em

That’s just a decal … they came standard and were on all of them.

Red bikes go faster… and i’ve always loved de rosas, but somecs are pretty amazing.

Are they exactly the same size?

the de rosa is super nice, but i love that somec

derosa - 59st 57.5 tt - $725
somec - same size - $500

i’m pretty confident that the size is pretty much spot on…with a 170 crank…maybe even 172.5;

you building em fixed or as old roadies…

if your going to use the frames for a conversion get the somec

if it’s a roadie your building the de rosa is king!

i know de rosas are held in very high regard by pretty much everyone, but i can’t get past that horrendous typeface and love heart motif.

somec has cooler paint, a sweet matching pantographed stem, and is cheaper.

(i know nothing about roadies, hence basing my opinion purely on aesthetics, ha!)

I’d be more interested in what Columbus tubing both those frames are?

yep…a bunch of questions have been asked.

And the De Rosa paint looks in better condition, although possibly repainted?

99% sure it’s a repaint. The paint looks way too thick to be original (the way it accumulates around the lugs), plus the drop-outs are painted. De Rosa’s and a lot of other Italian marques are known for thin and very delicate paint, given its age I’d expect some wear to be evident as well.

If you’re going to be running a newer groupset on any of these frames check the spacing to see that it is 130mm, not a problem if it isn’t as you can re-space it, but it’s just another thing to consider. Also, as the De Rosa is a repaint you can’t be sure what kind of condition it was in pre-resto. Probably it will be fine, but personally I wouldn’t be touching it.

Plus only rich wankers ride De Rosas.

From here btw…

Főoldal

Have had a friend who got a frame from them before, it’s actually an english dude (well i gather from the ashes jokes in the emails).

There’s a fair few nice frames on there generally.

They’re from Geoff? OK that makes sense. He gets a lot of cool stuff in from all over Europe. I’ve never bought a frame off him but his reputation is pretty good and his prices reasonable (certainly more-so than some of the frame scavengers here in Australia). Regarding the De Rosa, it’s not the original paint, but as a general roadie the paint job on it is going to be more durable than the original, and I would trust it to be in a good enough structural condition before the repaint now that I know where it is being sold. Someone has already re-spaced it as well so it is ready for any current generation groupset.

Good to know.

Thanks.

I’m still not sure which way to go, but it’s good to konw that the guy has a good reputation.

De Rosa man!

i know geoff pretty well, he’s a top dude if he says the frame is NOS then i’d say it is…
my coppi is one of his frames and i totally rate dealin with him!

i still say de rosa though it’s a nice looking frame
