Best coffee and hot chocolate in Melbourne

what’s yours worth?

I’d say a shitload less. I’m with TC

work makes me travel to places in the developing world where wireless hotspot cafes are everywhere (in the name of the techno-savvy intelligent community) - it is as Andy describes it.

I wonder if the people hunched over their tiny round tables with the no-foam-double-decaf-lite-soy-frappucinos squinting in the half-dark at their duelling laptops are on each other’s facebook pages…

It was NOT an attack on you kid killy - but a retort like that is plain childish. Articulate a response, please.

Tuning OUT to the modern day world, and tuning in to the old is far more interesting and it’s getting HARDER to do.

disconnect and ride.

heh… internet flaming…

Totally agree. Remember the days before mobile phones? At risk of sounding like a grumpy old stooge - and I’ve got the dress sense to go with - those were the days!

Wireless cafe internets, bleh! Can’t your facebook profile update wait until you get home? Dudes hunched over laptops in cafes remind me of those girls taking photos of themselves at concerts and nightclubs.

Stop… breath… and take in the moment.

by all means if you need to entertain yourself, do a crossword, read a free street mag or even (if you must) wear a black skivvy and write bad poetry in well-thumbed black notebook.

but for fuck’s sake leave your laptop at home.

Sorry trackcunt I was just joking. Wasn’t really an attack. I thought Aussies could handle a cocky sense of humour.
The telling me to get an i-phone or go to sydney bit was sweet though. Thanks for the advice.
I couldn’t give a fuck about facebook. I just moved to Melbourne and don’t even have a home nevermind internet. I’m searching for accommodation and a job via the internet. Is that a tech savy thing to do? I like to drink coffee and was hopping to find a quiet place to use free internet. Anyways I gotta go finish my no foam double decaf whateverthefuck.

seeing as no-one seems to have suggested a place with wi-fi, Workshop upstairs on the corner of a’beckett and elizabeth st, and

here’s a list i pulled off the internet could be a little out of date. some places might not do coffee, but most would.

try any of the libraries in the city… thats what i did when i got here and needed spend a tonne of time online looking for work and a home.

i think the wireless from the library on flinders lane (near degraves) extends down to ‘journal’

[detour] killy - where in canada are you from? it almost doesnt matter, but the coffee here blows doors off anything i had there except for in toronto at jet fuel and this faceless place in kensington market. jet fuel’s anniversary alleycat posters were amazing (they had a keg for every year they have been open - over 10 years strong i believe)

Wow LAM thanks a lot man! These will be useful.

Sorry guys I didn’t mean to jack this thread and turn it into a debate about wireless in cafes.

If anyone cares though I have found that the best free wireless is at the Museum/Imax. No coffee of course but really good internet connection. Libraries are good but really slow.

Nikcee I’m from Toronto. Yes Jet Fuel is excellent for sure. I used to live down the street from there. Its only one of many many great spots for coffee though. Did you go to Ideal in Kensington Market? I’ve had my friends buy their beans and ship them to me in Asia there so good.

Coffee here is great for sure. Recently went to a really good spot on Brunswick. Don’t remember the name though.

ideal was the spot in kensignton market… amazing coffee and a mellow vibe.

i like drinking at horse bazaar, dont think i would ever get a coffee there. They hire bartenders, not barristas. good atmosphere though; but its pretty loud. You want a seat in the smoking area if you want to chat, or during the afternoon. at night you can barely hear the person next to you, cos it’s so loud.
same same for joes re: bartenders/barristas. it’s pretty mainstream with no atmosphere imho…
Workshop is a pretty nice bar. I can’t remember seeing a coffee machine there, although they may have one. Make sure you get there early for a seat on the balcony, it’s pretty lush. (and chilled)

I can’t even imagine ingesting anything that came from a staff member at the exford. It’s good for late night takeaway alcohol, and… that’s all isnt it?!!

not sure about the other places but generally I think their names speak for themselves :DD

workshop def do coffee, and okay pide things for lunch. used to do $2 coffee for students, but i think they’ve put it up to $2.50. it’s generally nice and quite till about 2pm, i think it opens at 10 or 11am. Mag Nation do coffee as well, though you’d have to ask Cale how good it is. and you get to read hundreds of magazines for FREE

Cale makes a good coffee, but he says Magnation uses shit beans and milk. I like Pushka, though the coffee there is a bit iffy sometimes, but I really like the people.

waffle on.

I just love little waffle on, but closed on sundays

Cafenatics in the alleyway between 500 and 530 Collins Street for anyone stuck working in the ‘beiruit’ end of Collins Street.

Best around those parts.

arcadia is my favourite spot for coffee.

I’ve only ever had good experiences with 7 Grams on Church St. Amazing coffee but unfortunately since finishing at the school down the road I don’t spend much time around there any more…

Brother Baba Budan when in the city unless you want a table.
