Beyond metric

If it’s twice the size of MCG then obviously put two footy fields on it.

“More than a hundred Torquay residents will spend another night away from their homes as authorities pump the equivalent of 90 Olympic-sized pools of water out of a dam to ensure it does not collapse.”

The funny thing about that is the ABC article just gave the volume in megalitres, and I converted it into swimming pools myself in Google, and thought of this thread

“megalitres, what kind of a metric is that?!?! I can’t visualise it at all. How many Boxing Day kids pools is it? Now that’s something you can set your watch by”

At work I’m like ‘1 hectare?’ goes off to work out how many 1/4 acre blocks that equates to

MCG field is about 2 hectares

What’s worse is I heard the story on TV via ABC News where they mentioned Olympic sized pools, so went to their website first to grab a link for here, but their written word didn’t match, so had to Google another source.

Empire State building

Is the Empire state building still considered tall?

The old MCG again.
If you Google this one everyone is using the same reference, so Amazon probably put out a press release quoting it.

“Online behemoth Amazon is opening a second distribution centre in Melbourne that will be nearly double the size of the MCG and be able to hold six million items. Construction has begun on the new Melbourne warehouse at Ravenhall, about 20km west of central Melbourne.”

This one just popped up at work
