This bike is badass:
that is a broken handlebar, Russians had those great Cinelli laser frames but they were using inferior quality Russian (I think Takhion) handlebars. Handlebars were attached to the fork and riders could brake them from their efforts.
Rider on that photo is Alexander Kirichenko and that handlebar failure cost him a gold medal in 1989.
It happened on his last lap, he had a best time and was going to take gold but after the incident with bars he lost some time yet managed to finish race and take bronze… tough Russian, ha, ha…
