Bit of a Brick

Hi,

Recently completed (mostly) my build, thought I may as well post it up. A few parts from members on here as well as elsewhere, taken me too long to finish but its turned out mostly how I envisaged.

Its a heavy 56 C-T, 57 C-C frame which has no indication of who made it, but I’m pretty sure it was built in Tasmania. It came with the fork already drilled which was interesting, and also a stack of spacers on the steerer. Decent enough frame for a first build though.

  • Hillbrick Pista wheels (fix/fix) with 18t cog.
  • Galli cranks with 50T currently.
  • MKS Sylvan pedals.
  • 100mm Kalloy stem.
  • Nitto Udons from Fixed.org with champ grips.
  • Dura-ace post 26.8 with Regal saddle.
  • A brake, so I don’t case into the first bus I see.

Still to come:

  • Soma Oppy X clips.
  • Black nylon straps.
  • 44T chainring (get the spinnn on).
  • I may cut the steerer too if its possible, looks a bit kooky with all those spacers below the locknut I think.

I’m not riding it till I get clips, just around my street, its a bit frustrating.

The final chainring - cog combination should give me a bit under 65 gear inches, which will be good for Hobart hills and working the spin.

Hi Ross, your frame looks a lot like mine from the photo, mine also came from tasmania. What does that sticker on the seat tube say?

that is totally the same fork.

how heavy can it be?

(ie how heavy is it?)

Tasmanian mystery frames! Mine looks the same as yours and it also came from Tasmania :?

Nice rides there!

I have since found out that there is an old fella from Rosebery who must be in his 70’s now who is known as ‘Frank the Framebuilder’ by a fellow builder who lives in the Huon.

He was around when every bike shop had a frame builder, and so would be the one to ask who may have built this frame, unfortunately he would be a bit hard to trackdown.

The sticker on the seat tube is a ‘Sold and Serviced by Craig Price Cyclery in Ulverstone’ shop sticker.

The seatstays are ultra narrow at the bottom, are your frames the same?

My bike came with that same craig price sticker too!

Well, looks like they are from the same area then. Probably used in Northwest Coast carnival series’ back in the day.

There are a few dents on my chain stays around the chain ring area, but otherwise its a clean frame.

The weight is not really apparent, its just a normal weight frame I think, I was just being a little harsh on it.

Had a pretty awesome paint job done by someone though, faux carbon seat stays and forks!

The seatstays are ultra narrow at the bottom, are your frames the same?

Yeah mine are only 10mm where they meet at the dropout. Do either of your frames have any stampings on the bottom bracket? Mine has either “11” or “II” stamped underneath it.

Would be geart to find out some more about them as there are obviously a few getting around.
