Another from BNA where those who get holes in the rubber things what go round tell what happened. (do not say the magic word or you summon the p****ture fairy)
Today I felt a sorta bump bump. I had a look at both tyres, didn’t see anything. Nothing obvious on the treads, no badly seated tyre.
Anyway I had somewhere to be and headed out. Bump bump on the road at speed, a bit less on bike paths.
Headed home from Ashfield, came bombing down Creiff Rd which is a short sharp hill with a curve in the middle, through the roundabout at the bottom, past the stop sign and…
BANG
As whatever was doing the bump bump finally had enough and blew up my front tyre.
Big hole in the tyre and nothing obvious as to why. I swear nothing was visible when I looked. I felt very grateful that happened on the flat rather than a steep hill with a corner in it!
Ah well. Wheel out, tube out, spare tube in. The $5 note that lives in the toolkit for just this purpose slipped in between tube and tyre to mask the hole.
Then pump up the tyre. As usual I got sick of pumping with the emergency pump before I got even close to 90psi so the front was a bit how you going on the way home.
There’s a Conti Urban in the shed, put that on tomorrow.
