BMX cranks

anyone done this successfully? ive noticed most of the crank arms seem to be 175mm, which is a bit annoying.

i dont know anything about bb sizing etc either on bmx’s …

cheers guys, nick.

You’ll need to get a BMX crank that fits EURO BBs. That’s the MTB/ROAD bike sized BBs. American BBs are the bigger diameter ones that seems to be the standard (or used to be?).

Profile makes BMX cranks right down to 145mm for juniors. They’re quite pricey though. Truvativ has a BMX crankset down to 160mm that uses ISIS drive. I’m sure there’s lots of other brands out there to choose from. Some of the BMX BBs have spacers that sllow you to adust chainline … so I don’t think there’s any issues there. Have a look at www.mtbr.com search the SS forums. Alot of the guys there use BMX cranks for offroad SS riding. Not so common in fixed gear road riding … probably because good BMX cranks can set you back quite abit. Might as well use good track cranks.

Strictly BMX do the bitch cranks with the right knowledge, will work successfully in a fixed setup.

The GONZ at Strictly BMX is the only person I know of, who has succesfully got BMX cranks to work on a fixie…but DAMM, they look nice.

I have some 170 AC mini LE cranks on my steamroller, chainline no problem. They look sweet.

Lots of older BMX race cranks were for square taper BB’s You shouldnt have a problem getting them to work. Have a look on ebay there are tonnes to choose from. Only thing is the sometimes funny BCD’s which makes it hard to find chainrings in a good size

I never understood the problem with running a bmx 3-piece crankset on a fixed bike. Can anyone (tc, perhaps) explain?

Gonzy reckons the spindle and ringbolt will thrash out the chainring over time. He’s no longer at Strictly.

I reckon 3-piece would work regardless, just depends on how often you replace your chainring.
