Richard Sachs has been selling off a bunch of cool old swag including this boxed Haden lug set. Many Aussie builder’s used lugs such as these (and also the copycat Prugnat S4 which followed shortly after - last pic). Spot the differences?
Never seen a boxed display set such as this. Pretty cool imo. Also cool to see/i.d. the fork crown which I always assumed was a Zeus or Everest item.
Probably because of the box and the Richard Sex factor but he did have a few early style Cinelli and Nervex lug sets that recently sold for a reasonable dollars. You never know.
I doubt it. For as long as I can remember he’d been sitting on and buying NOS parts and stuff (not actively but picking up good deals here and there, including from me). I’m thinking he doesn’t have time or space for it any more and as the old saying goes “you can’t take it with you”.
Then again I feel the same, vintage is dead now that it’s worth too much to use. Better off selling it.
I say so. There’s only so much masturbation that old, obscure, esoteric bike parts can enable even if you have deep pockets and a garage full of supplies. What matters more is the roads and riding. Old bikes are nice and pretty but I’d much rather parts that are readily replaceable, cheap and for the most, better. Parts are parts, they’re there to serve a bigger purpose and we’re all guilty of obsessing at how things look rather than just getting on with it and riding over the hills, and far away.
Incredible statement, especially on FOA. Come on can’t we just admit we all love old shiny parts and we enjoy obsessing over them? Functionality is almost separate I reckon. Makes me miss my Campagnolo Euclid U brakes, can’t believe I sold them!
Sure we love shiny old parts, but that’s why I’ve got a couple of old bikes in the bike room. When I want to do some actual riding imma choose functionality.
