What: Gravel Grinder
Where: Mt Alford
When: Wednesday 14th August
Distance: 87km (77km shortcut home)
Start time: TBA
Water fill & Shop: Camp Like Fire, Lake Maronn @ 43km mark
It has taken a while but I finally got sorted to put together a gravel grinder. I was going to do a recon ride next Wednesday but then I realised it was the Ekka public holiday, so why not just invite everyone.
It will be a self supported 87km ish ride starting and finishing at Mt Alford (just over an hour south-west from Brisbane). There is no public transport so you will need to drive or hitch a lift. I would suggest we form groups and travel with others of a similar ability to lend a hand when needed.
I will continue to add details here as I work them out.

It will be a self supported 85km ride starting and finishing at Mt Alford (just over an hour south-west from Brisbane). There is no public transport so you will need to drive or hitch a lift. I would suggest we form groups and travel with others of a similar ability to lend a hand when needed.

From what I can tell the roads are used everyday by cars, so I would assume it should be easy going. A road bike with 25mm+ tyres should be able to handle it (bigger the better).

i found the truth (according to my garmin anyway) usually lies closer to ridewithgps numbers, but most of the time somewhere between mapmyride and ridewithgps for elevation
I called the Mount Alford Hotel and we are good to park in their car park at the far side near the playground. There are also public toilets for pre-ride wees.
Not to rush anyone but, lunch is served from 12-2pm. Otherwise there are plenty of places open in Boonah on the way home.
So much fun, such a good group! Multiple muscle cramp attacks starting at Newman Rd (~31.6 km) that lasted for the remaining 40+ kms made the ride near-unbearable. Had to walk on most of the climbs afterwards, but the descents were always worth it. Thanks for organizing guys!
Thanks for coming along Chris, you were an absolute trooper!
I knew there would be a lot of climbing but I wasn’t expecting that much. The gravel was great, the riders were awesome and the views were spectacular.
Thanks guys, especially Brad (again). A good time was had by all I was just on the edge of cramping by those last hills too, lack of climbing lately probably…
