Man I got a long list of trails I wanna ride just in the D’Aguilar alone, want to try Super V to see if I die.
Cheers man, enjoyed your ride/walk report immensely!

anyone got any tips on good SSCX routes anywhere? flat, gravel, easy incline, stuff like that
finally finished mine but it’s not entirely hill-friendly until it gets geared at a later stage
Daisy Hill fireroads should see you through no problems.
I know of a couple of guys who regularly ride their CX’s in Daisy.
Riding the singletrack will help you ride smoothly or repair punctures.
seen this?
Event Info
not so much the event, moreso the location.
Go for a dip in a dam and you’ve got yourself a triathlon.
… Scrub Rd bush camp.
There’s a pad to the left of the fire pit, this would be a good spot for a sub24hr/overnighter, thinking of doing a practice run up here loaded with gear.
Scrub Rd bush camp.
That is a good spot for an overnight, I’ve stayed there a couple of times. And it’s close enough that you can dash up to Nebo in the morning for a coffee.
Zach, if you’re interested in epic adventures in the gravel, you should have a look at the rides that Neil Ennis and his friends do. They are mountain bikers, but very friendly folks. Forum-wise they hang out on mtbdirt.com.au. But Neil posts ride reports on his blog, Musings
A whole bunch of us did one version of the Super V a couple of months ago. See England Creek « Musings
It’s a killer ride, even with mtb gearing. 1500 metres of vertical in 36km. And only half of that is uphill
Hey Andrew,
Yep big fan of Neil, good write ups and route details. Spend a bit too much time at work reading the QLD section of MTBdirt.
Super V looks bloody tough, I think I’ll give it a crack before winter is out.
Yeah, MTBdirt is cool - just like FOA.
Yo Zach, I met a dude the other day rocking a long-hawl looking for buddies to do gravel rides in brisbane… I said you were man! If I PM you his number you wanna touch base with him??
Yeah man allll good, send him my way. I’m probably out of action next coupla weekends tho.
thread dig…
Keen for some Gravel on my Panazzzzzonic.
Gav rand me during the week asking if I wanted to head up to Tewantin for a ride with some people I knew and some others I didn’t. Sure I said. Righto, pick you up at 3:45am on Sunday, da fuck?!?! and I didn’t have my dually as it’s in getting the shocks serviced. So Gav lent me his Stumpy hardtail.
So held off on getting sauced at the Inlaws family Chrstmas party, came home and got some stuff together and went to bed, before I knew the alarm went off and I was up, dressed and out the door #waitin4am8 at stupid o’clock in the morning.
Watched the sun come up as we passed Aussie World.
And parked up at Read Park in Tewantin, arriving in plenty of time for the 6am heading off time slot.
While I didn’t manage to get many shots, as there wasn’t a lot of stoppage time, and we were fairly moving, with the National MTB Junior Coach and the local MTB Club President as part of our group, I did manage a shot of the fire roads at Pomona.
And another near Lake Macdonald.
The 52km course over 2hrs50mins we took was this, a mix of tarmac, fire road and single trail:
The hardtail went fine, my back not so much, was thinking I’d get away with the Wolverine with 50mm tires on it no problems, if it had gears. Wooroi Day Use Area http://www.organisedgrime.com.au/TewantinWooroi.pdf has had the trails tweaked by World Trail apparently. There’s a lot of flow to be had, even on the Black Diamond stuff.
Will definately be heading back there in the new year.
got some days in the next couple of weeks. Have two gravel capable machines. lets do this.
Yeah I’m keen as f too.
Out of curiosity - are camelbak’s acceptable on gravel rides?
Depends on availability of replenishment. 25kms on one bidon on dirt is about my limit, so I camelbak it if required once I take that calculation into account.
So for the above ride I did I was one bidon and camelbak and lugging a second bidon for Gav who loaned me his bike and only has one bidon cage on his Niner dually.
Now that there’s a gravel race in the pipes, any of you want to go recon the route? It’s almost out toowoomba so might be something to drive to. Apparently the climbs are brutal
The start of the ride is over an hours drive from Brisbane (depending on where you leave from).
Take a minimum of two bottles, three if you have the room. I rode a 40km loop out there the other week and just ran out of water as I got back to the car.
There is a water tank at the lookout at the very top. It’s says not to drink it because it isn’t treated, but the groundsman up there told me it was fine - and it was.
Give yourself 3 - 3 1/2 hours to do the loop.
The climbs hurt but they aren’t long.
yeah im keen for recon ride, im in ippy so its not too far for me. Would need to organise at least 1 week in advance though. Don’t get much time for longer rides atm w 2 kids under 2
