Broken spokes on cheap 26" wheel: fix or replace?

My friend wants to get her mountain bike rolling again, and I’ve offered to help. Turns out she has broken two spokes on the front wheel. Should I

a) man up, read Sheldon, buy a spoke wrench and try and replace the spokes
b) replace the cheap and nasty wheel with another cheap and nasty wheel (anyone? I’m in Melb)
c) Take it to a real mechanic, freeing me up to service the rest of her bike

I would do a) if I were you, it’s easy. And you can true your own wheels.

yeah, +2 for doing it yourself, i just pulled apart an old 27" wheel, cleaned all the spokes, and rebuilt it on a coaster hub off a bmx. i was suprised at how easy it was, only took an hour or so, so then i pulled appart a cracked wheel and used some of the spokes to replace 3 broken ones in another wheel. all the prior experience i had was owning a spoke key and having trued a wheel a week after it was bought. dead easy. i mean it’s not the straightest thing in the world, but it’s no worse then wheels i ride on the street all the time

Yeah spokes are cheap and replacing them is a breeze!
