I will be heading to Hong Kong for 3 weeks holidays mid of sept. I came across with a bike shop who can order a brand new Cannondale Capo for $870AUD which is $5500HKD. I was surprise how cheap is it compare to Australia rrp: 1600AUD.
Firstly have anyone done it before? by taking it on the plane as a baggage?
and Can it be done without posting it and gonnna cost me 1/3 of the bike?

Will completely depend on the airline and what their baggage allowances are.
I flew home from the US once with a bike and a wheelset in tow.
Air NZ’s baggage allowance was 2 suitcases per person.
The bike and wheel box were each seen as a suitcase.
I had my family of 2 adults and 2 children with 4 other suitcases so I was well within the allowance.
Thats good…I check the dimension of those factory bike box, they r 180 x 30 x 76. Hopfully I can check in with it.
Contact your airline - you might be able to make an arrangement in advance.
I visit HK reasonably regularly. Generally MTB stuff is well priced but bargains on road parts take some sniffing out and dealing with shops over there by phone or internet is pretty hopeless. It sounds like you have already, but if not, contact Mr Lee at Flying Ball Bicycle Shop (a cannondale dealer and arguably HK’s biggest shop for quality-end). http://www.flyingball.com/ and there’s a handy map on their website for how to find them, about 5-10 minutes walk from Cheung Sha Wan MTR station. There’s a shop in Wood Rd, Wan Chai that’s pretty good, but I can never remember the name of it. There are a couple of OK shops in Tung Choi Street, near the Prince Edward MTR station. Most are listed in the local yellow pages - it might be worth a day’s shop trawling if you have time, but be careful that you are getting genuine goods, esp from the smaller shops.
You probably know all this if you’re from there :roll: .I have seen the odd fixie rider over there, around Wan Chai and Causeway Bay on the weekends.
Yep indeed i contacted Mr Lee from flying ball. Awesome service and giving me an offer of 5500 for the Capo. Its really tempting, I’ll be travelling alone…I am just worried about the baggage dimension.

Seems that you have a max size of 203 linear cm (length + width + height).
Your bike box is well outside of that.
aww i guess its too big then. Very unfortunate that i cant get such bargain.

Its quite alot of hassle if i travel alone. So I guess it aint worth the trouble… I will give cathay pacific a call again tomorrow.
I was looking for a Bianchi Pista for the track. They retail for about US$500 but are not available in Australia according to the Bianchi distributor. So I did the rounds and found a bike shop in the US that will ship to Oz. Quote was about US$800 all up which I reckon is pretty good considering the options for new track bikes here. Might be worth considering.

But I think their retail price is around $1100, which I reckon is a bit overpriced for the Pista.
Yes its mega-overprice…for the parts u r getting its like a Schwinn madison without a Bianchi decals.
Ive seen Bianchi Pista’s at quite a few places. There is a few different models depending on specs I believe, pretty sure I saw the lowest specced one at John Beasley Cycles for $899? Seemed pretty cheap if you want to buy brand new complete.
I prefer older steel lugged frames and building them up myself.
