BV's annual terrible light roundup

Does the picture of the currywurst not convey the ironic intention.

You don’t have to be like all the other commuter armholes with a bazillion lumens of randomly directed lights.

And it’s not just commuters. The armhole roadies that do Mt Lofty in the mornings are just as bad or worse. Dazzling cyclists coming down - nice one arsehats.

scroll up for the lights, scroll down for the science.

moon shield goes alright, but agree with DaFrog that the rapid flash mode could just about cause an epileptic fit.

also doesn’t seem to have a warning of low charge - just stops - pretty sh1t if you are out at night and relying on it.

I’m using the Lezine macrodrive at the front and while I’m generally happy with its performance, I’m concerned by the fact that it can randomly point up or down after some time. This is generally not a problem for me, because it does this only at a slight angle, but I’m concerned that it may shine in the eyes of others when pointing up.

Anyone with similar problems? If yes what do you do?

do unto others… perhaps

@ bricktop, there is a low battery warning light but it’s red and next to the main LED so you can’t see it easily

I’ll purchase one of these.

recently picked up the macro front myself, for $50 its pretty bloody good bang for buck.

I try position the light centred on the bracket so weight distro is even, less likely to droop forward on bumps. I also wrap the mount around bar tape for more friction, otherwise some inner tube or left over tape under the mount is handy. I also have it strapped as tight as possible.

I dont jump kerbs etc, but the occasional pothole means a quick assment to ensure its still level.

My partner has one of these and she is very happy with it. my experiences riding with her agree with this assessment. good beam, seemingly well directed and you have to try to blind people when it is mounted on the bars normally rather than it doing it for you all the time.

She had the same issues with hers in terms of slippage but that was also due to losing one of the o-rings. using a garmin supplied o-ring solved the issue on one bike and some inner tube - electric taped down (its on black bars so its not noticeable) solved it on another bike as well. i’ve also used hockey tape for the same purposes.

Thanks Jase. As you say it’s all about centering the light on the mount. With such a good practical light maybe Lezyne can think about a better mount for the next gens of the product.
