Any recommendations on where to pick up freshly roasted beans in the CBD? I know there are quite a few places north of the 'BD, but would like walking distance from Collins/Russell.
Thanks!

In before Blakey!
Espresso Alley (little bourke between elizabeth and william - google brother buba budan, naked coffee, patricia, manchester press) has most good coffee and places that sell beans than anywhere else i can think of in the CBD but The league of honest coffee might be the closest. that or sensory lab in david jones (but i find them too overhyped and less friendly).
Espresso Alley is actually on Separation St, Northcote
Little Espresso (cos it’s a little st not a lane or alley) is a great cbd bean source. Between that, the League and perhaps 65 Degrees, you’ll be well stocked.
and the coffee there has been really average lately.
The ‘issue’ with a lot of the boutique CBD places is that you ask for a 250 or 500g bag of beans or grind, and then the price is like $40.00.
Don’t ask for the single origin!

Haven’t been lately, ever since fifteen pounds opened up even closer to my house.
Naah, the ‘issue’ is that you’re cheap. Of course small lot single origin / COE beans that pay the farmers a decent wage are going to cost more than some vittoria dreck from the supermarket.
BTW, 7Seeds blends are $14/250g.
I don’t buy coffee, I just trade bike parts for it
Come on, Vittoria is fine!
Totally understand Single origin should cost more, it’s just that when you buy it, there is a cynical part of me that thinks it all comes from the same sack.
You should probably stick to pod coffee then.
Look, there’s appreciation of decent coffee, and then there’s coffee snobism…
market lane in therry st, 7seeds not sure the name of street though, Patricia in little William st and sensory lab in little Collins all have fresh roasted coffee on offer…
I get my beans from Patricia in little William St which is handy to my workplace - they stock Market Lane, 7 Seeds and a range of others as well as single origin beans. Service is good and they take their craft seriously.
+1
Thanks for all the tips everyone, I’ve got a lot of places to try right now. I ended up stopping into the “Fair Trader” on Exhibition because I was short on time, they sell/serve St Ali Chompy, so knowing I liked the coffee they’ve served me I figured it was worth a shot (no pun). The coffee was roasted on the 3rd of December so I’ve got a few days before I can give it a try, I should have just enough beans to get by until then.
Resting coffee is a myth you can drink it now there shouldn’t being any “roast taints” unless it’s real darkly roasted, in which case I’d avoid altogether!
but filter brewing lessens the chance of the typical ‘freshness’ taints, no? Espresso roasts have an obvious period where the roasted beans have not yet had a chance to ‘de-gas’ and will therefor would be better enjoyed for a few to several days after roast date?
Straight from the roaster it takes around 24hours to “de-gas”, beans do develope over time as the oils settle into the beans but can be brewed pretty much after that first 24hours. If anything the perceivable acidity would be more prominent, which personally I like! Considering its from st Ali there’s a good chance it’ll be on the lighter side anyway. The moral is you don’t need to wait enjoy it know!
Meant now!
Ps trust you to jump on this comment straight away
Always friendly service in there, and I’m stoked they are doing well.
I’ll message you next time I’m heading up to 500 Bourke since its right next door and see if you fancy a break. It’s been a while…
