Cheapest store for tyres?

Now that the Aussie dollar is worth sh*t, what is the best and cheapest outlet/online shop for tyres. Probikekit is no longer the cheapest for many things.

Specifically, I need a pair of Continental Gatorskins and I’d like to find the cheapest in stock.

Thanks.

inb4 haveyoutriedabikeshop/buyanewbike

let your fingers do the walking…

srsly tho, ring around and find a shop that has stock that landed before the dollar went tits up.

i got a pair for like $70 or $80 from some australian ebay store a few months back.

Bikepro.com.au aren’t bad for pricing (weren’t they banned from advertising in Bicycling Australia because they were lots cheaper than the other advertisers?).

If you don’t mind Kiwis, Ttorpedo7 often have deeply discounted tyres (pro race3/GP4000/rubino/etc) and you’ll receive them in 2-3 days. Not sure if they currently stock Gators.

Personally, I just buy a new bike when something wears out.

But I’m a busy person!

This is exactly what this forum is for- knowledge sharing

what is that if not sharing knowledge?

haha so the knowledge you’re sharing is that I should look in the phonebook? Pretty lame knowledge if you ask me
-all in jest of course-

Just go into your LBS and get on your knees you lil bitch

im the master of lame knowledge. and rolly eyes

I believe, but am happy to be corrected, Abbotsford Cycles had them for $55. I remeber thinking that it was slightly cheaper than wherever it was i saw them before that.

They also have my favourite skidding tyres… Clements for $20. They have no puncture protection but they seemed to last me for a while** when i was skidding on canadian roads. But the best bit is that that they squeal slightly when you skid them… which tends to scare your friends no end

**not as long as everwear/gatorskins but longer than the average $30-40 tyre.

Cheap Tyres? Fucking K-Mart!!!

or

Steal them from a rich kid

haha

Thanks, so perhaps Abbotsford is the go then.
Can you get both folding and wire bead Gatorskins? Folding would be marginally more expensive I gather…

why do u need folding tyres? this is something i have always wondered… like are u ment to carry them and then on the side of teh road replace a tyre?

Cecil Walker have shitloads of them. I paid $60 a few weeks back.

Folding = slightly lighter, and IME slightly easier to install.

Another cheap tyre source is LBS dumpsters, lightly used from high end roadies/cafe racers getting bikes serviced.

KMart don’t do 700C.

Abbotsford have a few cheapies, but leave the IRC Roadwinners alone! They’re the only decent skinwalls I’ve seen.

I don’t think AbC stock Gators do they? I got my last one from BSC for $40, but that was mates rates, RRP there is ~$70 for steel bead.

Exactly, $65.00 ea equals $130.00 just for bloody tyres!

Why are bicycle consumables so expensive compared to the overall cost of the bike?

$130.00 represents like 15% of an average bike.

This is exactly what this forum is for

Oh, I thought it was for starting fights and flaming. :expressionless:

If you bought 10-20 thousand pairs of tyres you too could get a better discount as well.

That’s only 160 - 200 tyres per member of this forum. We should defo do that and then we’d all be set.
