Coaster brakes...legal?

i was at this point last summer until one night i thought it would be hilarious to buzz my mates back wheel with my front, lost a reasonable amount of skin, massive bruises from where the frame landed on me and my wrist has never been the same since

fixed it for yew.

sorry, slow day

bro i was just trying to talk in code as this is a family friendly forum, but you basically nailed it.

fixed that for you. your code is transparent.

lolz all round. friday arvo, here we come!

the fixer…

im barring up so much right now

Can’t get a DUI on the bike see s49 of the Road Safety Act (vic)

(1) A person is guilty of an offence if he or she-

(a) drives a motor vehicle or is in charge of a motor vehicle while under
the influence of intoxicating liquor or of any drug to such an extent
as to be incapable of having proper control of the motor vehicle; or

Definitions in section 3 say:

motor vehicle means a vehicle that is used or intended to be used on a highway
and that is built to be propelled by a motor.

Other dude is right in saying that they can get you under some archaic law about being in control of a carriage. its only a fine.

given there is no horse and a bike is not a carriage of any description you could have any such fine over turned in court…

Depends on the definition of carriage, which is probably a common law thing (judges made it up) and the defintion probably just includes anything with wheels, thus includes bikes, cars etc.

That’s not the case here in SA.
You can be fined or convicted for driving under the influence regardless of whether you are over or under the 0.05 BAC. This is particularly the case if you are so affected by any amount of intoxicating liquour or a drug that you are incapable of exercising effective control of your bicycle.
Here it’s 6 demerit points off your license (or if you don’t have a license, makes it very difficult to obtain one in the future).

You can’t be randomly breath tested.

it’s the same part of the Act as driving an animal or riding an animal. Eg the non-motorised vehicle part. Only the motorised vehicles have a prescribed BAC.

So, you can’t ride your camel home sloshed either

ps the deifinition of ‘brake’ is defined in the Australian Standard for bicycle.

Children’s bicycles are permitted one foot brake as they lack the motor control and strength to use hand-operated brakes effectivly…

There goes my Friday night. :expressionless:

hmm no wonder fixies make good pub bikes

Yeah, pity the nearest pub to me is 10km down a highway. But they provide a courtesy bus. In Brissie next year, I can see my bike bringing me home from the pub quite a bit. Have they made an autopilot for bikes yet?

mine seems to have one… It’s got me home in some shocking states…
One nite I found a napkin that some kid from melbs had left in my wheel complementing our collection of fine Sydney steeds locked up out side the gas light…
