Thanks fellas - I was hoping this was going to be the answer! A file it is! They’re only old 10 speed forks so it’s no big deal.
P!n20, the link says I don’t have permission to access this page.

Just been out in the shed & ground out the dropouts a bit, & my new toy now has shiny new wheels !! Thanks guys! Between crap weather, a busy few weekend’s & being on call for work, I haven’t had much time to ride lately, but I’m determined to rack up a bit of saddle time on her this weekend. (…the bike I mean…!)
New wheels! The rear was flip-flop, but I removed the freewheel - got another use for that!
I know it’s nothing flash, but I really like how it looks with the new wheels. Got some more plans for her soon too.
Looks good! I like the new wheels.
Have you got much standover clearance?
Scott
Thanks YOTC, like I said earlier, for around $50 delivered, I recon they’re great!
Not sure what you mean by “stand over clearance” (always keen to learn though!).
I have a front track wheel currently requiring this treatment. Bought a new bike and the axle won’t clear the dropout. Previously ran the same wheel on a steel bike, thus filed the dropout to make it fit. New bike is full crabon fork though, hence want to file the axle this time instead. Am familiar with the end product (I also have some wheels built with DA7600 hubs which have flat-sided axles), but don’t know how to achieve it without potentially buggering it up. Have been told I may need to re-cut the threads afterwards? Anyone able to assist with some instructions or a YouTube vid or something?
Sorry for thread hijack. If anybody can help, maybe PM to keep things here on topic.
Room between your goolies and the top tube when you’re feet are flat on the ground. The frame looks a little big from the seat post position is all.
Ahh, I see. Yeah, it is a bit big but I’m used to it. This one is about 56 cm seat tube, I have a 50 cm frame I’m repainting at the moment. The plan is to upgrade a few more bits, then swap it all over.
When you build bikes from dump shops/garage sales/freebies etc, you tend to use what you get!
Fair enough! I do like a good tip shop
Keep up the good work
Nice thread.
Really posiitve.
I am suitably impressed.
Nice rig too.
It will all look much better when you have a frame that suits your size.
If you don’t yet have BOG pedals/straps I could send you a pair for free.
I think I have some lying around somewhere.
G’day Salt;
Cheers mate - thanks for the kind words! I have a slightly smaller frame all painted & ready to go - still just waiting for some bar tape to arrive, then I can swap the wheels & crank set over. (Cant wait actually!)
The offer of the BOG pedals/straps sounds great! I’d be more than happy to give you some $$ for them though, + postage.
Cool.
Let me work out where they are.
PM me your address?
PM sent mate!
I can’t find them.
Im still a muppet here but I think someone posted that there are some for sale here which neither of us can see.
I’ll look into it.
Sorry for getting your hopes up. Ive looked everywhere.

Trading access after 25 days membership. Sometimes you need to prompt for it in the Ask The Mod’s section.
No worries Salt, that’s fine. Thanks anyway mate!
Strange - back on 4th September, P!IN20 told me about some BOG straps being sold by simonsausage, I didn’t have trading access at that stage, so I PM’d him. Today, I have a reply from him - dated 4th September… Not sure why I didn’t get it back then, I know 100% it wasn’t there yesterday! Oh well, these things happen I suppose!
Cheers mate! That bike’s been through a few changes since then. The alloy wheels that I put on it recently, & the crank set have gone onto another fixie I built - this one.
The white one now has it’s old chrome wheels back on, an old chrome crank set & different bars too. This one here is still a work in progress - I’m going to re-paint the forks a brighter white to match the crank set (the pic dosent really show it, but the forks are almost a cream colour), try & run the rear brake cable through the top tube, maybe change the seat, & eventually upgrade the brake callipers. I also have red bar tape coming for it too, but I kinda like the brown now. This one has been my daily commuter for a few weeks now & I’m really loving it - it’s really smooth & quiet.
Might be time to call it a day on this thread. I think the bike’s changed too much to keep calling it my “first fixie”. Couple of last pics of the (nearly) finished bike. Re-painted “whiter” forks, rear brake cable routed through the top tube, different seat & red bar tape. Still a couple of things I want to do to it, but for now, this is it.
I’m really happy how this one turned out, so much so that it’s been my daily ride for a while now.
r u a phisher or a next gen bot?
